Does anyone know if i will be changed over to universal credit if i give up my job self employed for carers allowance. My ds is on dla so we haven't been moved over but have heard so many bad things about uc.i am reluctant .
That said i also want to then find part time work but it will need to fit.

If you currently get working tax credits and you will no longer be working then you will lose those working tax credits. So based on that you are likely to be better off on Universal credit but you don't have to switch, you can continue to claim child tax credits, carers allowance. Do you currently claim housing benefit - if not you can no longer make a new claim for HB so would need to switch to Uc for help with rent.

Yes i currently get hb.. I don't really want to be on carers allowance long. My job is not working with ds but am hoping carers will give me chance to give him the extra support he needs whilst i look for something that will work better.

No you won't be required to make a claim for UC BUT if you're claiming WTX this will end and you won't be able to put in a new claim for Income Support so it's very likely you'd be better off on UC.

It's up to you if you want to make the claim.

Ok thank you for your help.

@Starlightstarbright1 if you start work again and are eligible you can receive wtc again if you already claim child tax credits.
