It sounds ridiculous, but I put money into an ISA or savings account years ago and I can't remember where it is. I thought it was the Skipton BS but checked today and its only a few hundred. Is there any way of finding this money?

Feel really stupid!

Have you combed through all of your paperwork and email records?

The only time this happened to me was when I had completely forgotten that I'd actually withdrawn the money.

www.mylostaccount.org.uk/

Here you go, OP. This service successfully located some lost accounts of mine.

My Lost Account is a good shout.

Could the money have been in some sort of fixed rate product where it was returned to you after a year or whatever?

Hopefully it's not gone into your current account and just dripped away on normal expenses.

No statements or passbooks that might give a clue?

No way that it's been taken fraudulently?

HollowTalk · 13/05/2021 12:22

I hope you find it!

tentosix · 13/05/2021 19:49

thank you. I have Put in all the info to my lost account and now going through paperwork.

I found a santander isa transfer request in the amount £5,800 which is about what i thought, but it is to Cheshire BS who don't seem to exist anymore. It confirms the money was sent and this tallies with my very vague recollection of the amount and timescale.

I'm quite stressed out finding this as it was easier to think i was mistaken and the money was in my imagination!

had no correspondence or emails from Cheshire BS ever to the best of my knowledge.

It was taken over by Nationwide so probably best to speak to them :)

tentosix · 13/05/2021 20:00

@MimieD I've just found a load of stuff from nationwide including a pinsentry card reader, so I'm going to try to log on. This is a nightmare.

Hooray! I found it. Over £4000, plus some in the skipton BS which I had completely forgotten about. So I have found over £4500 I'd lost. Thanks guys Grin

Ah, that's great news Smile. At least you'll sleep well tonight!

Chasingsquirrels · 13/05/2021 21:42

Good that you've found it.

I once had a client who misplaced £300,000 - actually he had no idea at all, I picked it up because he had interest in it the previous year and then didn't know what had happened with it!

What had he done with it?
Oblomov21 · 14/05/2021 18:42

Phew. Pleased for you.

But you found £4K and £500. But, Where's the other money, the £1300 that made up the £5,800?

Chasingsquirrels · 14/05/2021 18:54

It just moved into his bank account account the bond matured.
He was in his 80's and hard of hearing. I rang the bank with him there and they went through security questions with him and he had no idea, in the end they just said put your accountant back on and sorted it with me. Obviously quite some years ago!

The exact figures add up to £4800, so I've only lost £1K Grin I probably spent it somewhere. I am not good with money.
