Will I be moved from tax credits if I change jobs?

Just that really. I’ve been offered a job for more money but just wanted to know if it will trigger a move to universal credit. I can’t really find anything about it.

I think so as it’s classed as a change in circumstances

No you just need to update them with your new wage so that you are not overpaid.

Ok it’s longer hours and more money. I want to move jobs but worried how tight it will be to look after 3 children with no money for 5 weeks.

Just changing employer will not trigger application for universal credit. If you will be earning £2500 more or less in this tax year you must let them know and tax credits will be recalculated.

You don't need to switch to Uc. However that's not to say you wouldn't be better off switching to Uc. You would need a benefit calculation doing. If you did decide to switch then you can take an advance payment to tide you over the five week wait.

nope. i've changed jobs twice in last 3 years. one job was out of county too. not a problem.

Thank you everyone. I have looked at the calculator and it looks like I may be better off switching but not sure if I should because those calculators have been wrong in the past.

Bear in mind that UC claimants get an extra £20pw because of Covid, but this is scheduled to end in September.

If the difference between UC and and TCs is less than £86.66 a month, you'd be worse off switching when that £20pw stops.
