Hi everyone. Business failed due to COVID after leaving my long term job... my husband is in the army and we're due our first baby in July... just looking at what I'd be entitled too (never claimed before so a bit embarrassed!) anyone know what I would tick here? As we live in army accommodation so no idea?! Thank you

Is it for Universal credit ? Do you pay rent for the Army accomodation? I think I would put private tenant.

It’s private tenant!

Have you looked at Maternity Allowance? I received this after leaving my job shortly before the pandemic for a new posting. We didn’t qualify for anything else though.

Private tenant and you'll have to send them a copy of the license to occupy and his latest pay statement which shows the daily charge at the bottom.

@CombatBarbie ah thanks so much I will do that! He's only on 20k. Not that I'm trying to get anything I can but obviously every little helps! Do you know roughly how much we'd be entitled too? Thanks again!

On 20k you will likely not get anything until your baby arrives, but it does depend on rent amount etc.
I would look at maternity allowance which will likely pay you something until the baby is born, although if you then claim Universal credit when you have the baby, maternity allowance will be deducted from Uc.

CombatBarbie · 04/05/2021 00:20

When I was claiming childcare tax credits I put 40hrs a week.....

How much is the rent? You may be entitled to help with the rent, but until you've had the baby, that'll be all imo.

When you register the baby's birth, get a spare copy of the birth certificate as you have to send it in with your child benefit claim (or at least used to - they may have realised it's the 21st centurty and check electronically now).

And yes, you may well be entitled to maternity allowance, which I think is around £150 a week now. Whether or not you'll get the full amount will depend on how much national insurance you've paid.
