Can you all help me compile a list of people/institutions that I need to inform of my new married name?

oh gosh, I don't have a clue, but:
congratulations!!!! did you have the best time ever?

Mercy · 12/11/2007 10:06

Send a photocopy of your marriage certificate with a covering letter to

Bank/building society
Child Benefit office
Tax Credit office
Dr/dentist
Employer
Driving license
House/other insurance
Nursery/school

That's all I can think of atm. And congratulations of course

FairyOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 12/11/2007 10:08

Congratulations.

IME banks, etc are unlikely to accept a photocopy. You'll need to either send an original or take one into the branch so that they can take a copy and certify it themselves

Mawma · 12/11/2007 10:09

i would leave bank accounts till last do every where else first as you need to send your marriage cetificate away most of the time and they don't except photocopies, it can be a pain and i have actually kept one bank account in my maiden name as my biulding society wanted me to to send my marriage certificate to england, and as i'm in scotland i didn't fancy it getting lost in post

also i'm letting my passport run out i'm not paying another £60 odd quid for one just to have my new married name on it, we booked a holiday this year for our anniversary and you could see the hotel looking at our passports as if to say yeah right they are not married

HairyIrene · 12/11/2007 10:12

they want you to register the births of any children .. its a faff but i did it
contact local registry office

if you are gonna be missus such n such.. then all the people already suggested..

congratulations! Hope you had a good day
Ive made a very long list recently as we are moving, will dig it out

Elfsmummy · 12/11/2007 10:15

mobile phone company (who demanded the most proof - more than my bank!!!)
any household/utility bills in your name
student loan company - i forgot - caused a problem with my repayments that took forever to sort out
I sorted my passport first (which took the longest and then the rest)

I hope you had a fabulous day

Mawma · 12/11/2007 10:16

to be honest littlelapin i wish i had done that but because we got married abroad we couldn't get any other ones but they will give me another if i lose it, weird but don't fancy flying to cyprus just to get a new marriage cert

Right, this is a 'change of address' list so some might not be relevant but I'll leave them in as it might jog your memory about similar things:

Banks & Building societies (ISAs?)
Credit cards & loans
Mortgage people
House buildings & contents insurance
Life assurance
Doctors, dentists, opticians
Pensions
Work - HR & payroll
Car insurance
People who have your car details, e.g. Kwik Fit / Halfords
Store cards and online store accounts, though these probably linked
DVLA
blood donors
Gas, electricity, water, council tax
Telephone
Mobile
broadband provider
TV licence
ebay & paypal
solicitors
amazon
online shops - amazon, hmv, play
Child Trust Fund
Health Visitors
Nursery / school
Bounty
Child Benefit

Thank you everyone

Fab list SPB

We only got given one copy, but I may go back and ask for another copy or two for doing this.

We had a very lovely day. We are both still walking on air a bit I think

The 2 most important ones who always get left off, your local tax office and the National Insurance office (comes under HMRC now but is a separate entity)

SoupDragon · 12/11/2007 18:38

Your Probation Officer?
