Just got this winter’s electricity bill

I’ve always tried to be quite frugal with energy and last year spent the winter wrestling with airers, running the dehumidifier to deal with the damp, having wet clothes hanging round all the time and generally getting annoyed over it.

This year with lockdown and general fatigue I’ve put everything in the tumble drier every time and not cared about it. It’s made life so much easier, I’ve hardly ironed anything and just been more pleasant all round.

Well, my 6 months energy bill came today and I compared it to the same bill from last year. Rise in electricity costs for six months (considering we were homeschooling/WFH for a huge chunk of it too) - £20. Total. Over six months. My god. I’m never using an airer again!

4dc here too, the only things that get hung up(inside) are my cosy jammies and anything that needs sunbleached. Absolutely hate hanging washing outside.

Never shrunk anything yet, my dm was the master at shrinking everything. Anything that might shrink (bastarding school jumpers) gets put on as delicates.

You'd have to pull my tumble dryer out of my cold dead hands Grin

I use it often. When its warm I will hang on the line but I love the convenience and the way towels come out fluffy and not like the boards they resemble when they come off the line.

I'm also with octopus and the costs are negligible

@WombatChocolate The planet is doomed. Don't begrudge the OP a tumble dryer.

@pinkflask

I'm so pleased for you! I thought you were going to say you we're worried how the hell you were going to pay it!

I don't have a dryer, personally can't stand them. I LOVE hanging washing on the outside line, it makes me irrationally happy 😊 & dryers shrink my clothes (and I don't have a shrinkage allowance!!)

I (like most everyone) was home 99,99% of the time over the winter & put the heating on whenever I wanted to & accidentally left it on overnight sometimes too (hate that as I wake up feeling dreadful) so I thought my bill might be high, but it was hardly anymore expensive than the previous year (I didn't scrimp on heating the previous year either mind, but I wasn't home half as much).

I hate fluffy towels, I like them line dried. @SpnBaby1967
