Matched Betting

I saw this in another thread and became curios.

What is it?
Is it legal?
How do you do it?

I don't trust google when it's stuff like this

OP posts:
titchy · 30/03/2021 19:02

Yes it's legal. Google it!

Pamelaaaaa · 30/03/2021 19:05

It's using offers etc and laying (doing essentially the opposite bet) to guarantee yourself a small sum. £1 on a £10 bet for example. These quickly add up.

Yes it's completely legal.

There are various websites such as oddsmonkey which have videos and show you how to do it. They charge a small fee if you want to use their searching services and calculators (totally worth it).

It's not what it use to be as offers and incentives are nowhere near as good anymore.

I did it for about a year and made £3k ish. I did do casino offers too (more risk).
In the end I was blocked from too many bookies and it was becoming too much like hard work to find matches and offers so I stopped.

urbanmist · 30/03/2021 19:08

My parents do this. They bet on the Irish lottery result - my dad puts the bet on at the bookies. They have had quite a few wins. If the 3 numbers come up you win £600 quid. Much better than the £10 of so you get for 3 numbers on the actual lottery.

Buying an Irish lottery ticket isn't matched betting Confused Or do they do that as well?!
NecklessMumster · 30/03/2021 19:11

My partner does it as a hobby and makes maybe a few hundred pounds a month, depending how much time he spends on it. He's explained it to me several times but I haven't really grasped it Grin But it is real and legit. He says you must watch the videos that explain it before you do it, he also uses oddsmonkey and although he's been 'gubbed' a lot ( banned from bookie sites when they get fed up of you using them for free bets) he says there are enough sites for him to keep going.

urbanmist · 30/03/2021 19:29

@titchy
No it’s not buying a ticket as such, it’s a fixed bet on the outcome of three numbers. They can only win for three numbers, nothing more. Anyway, I obviously need to check my understanding of matched betting 😂

That's not matched betting at all, that's betting on the lottery. 😁

Matched betting is a totally legal way of exploiting offers given by bookmakers (and casinos). In its simplest form you use a combination of back bets (at the bookies) and lay bets (at an exchange) to make money.

I make about £500 a month from it.

Check out Team Profit to get started and if you decide to go for it Profit Accumulator is great. Feel free to pm if you need to!

urbanmist · 30/03/2021 19:47

@AgnesWaterhouse1566
Yes, I realise I thought I knew what this was, but didn’t.
You’re obviously doing well from it! 👍🏻

EmmaC78 · 30/03/2021 20:06

I do matched betting as well. I don't spend a huge amount of time on it - some days I do nothing at all but still make about £300 a month without too much effort. I started with only £10. It took a bit off time to understand what I was doing at first but now it is really quick. I would recommend the Team Profit website/facebook page too.

how much time investment does it take to make a decent profit? Is it worth the hours spent? Or would your average wage be piddly compared to say minimum wage or the average UK wage? Just wondering if it is worth the time investment vs the return. .

feckinarse · 31/03/2021 09:03

I'm thinking of starting this this weekend (been too tired to learn new things after work this week, the clocks changing + hayfever has knocked me over!). I'm reading a lot on Team Profit and I think it looks impressive. I mentioned it to DH last weekend and he took the plunge immediately and has made a 60 quid profit since Saturday.... I'm not looking for big big bucks but an extra 50 a week would be so helpful.

Effzeh · 31/03/2021 09:26

The time taken for matched betting is front-loaded, because you have to spend quite a bit of time watching the videos and understanding how it works and where the profit comes from. Doing the early offers is also time-consuming, because you need to check and double-check everything - the only way people lose money on the straightforward offers is by making mistakes, like laying the wrong team/event, or having the wrong settings on the calculator.

Once you get the hang of it, you can make a steady £300-£500 a month pretty easily - maybe 20 mins a day, and 45 mins a day at the weekends when it's busier.

Would recommend Team Profit, and the associated FB group. They have a newbies FB group as well, which will talk you through the welcome offers.

muffindays · 31/03/2021 09:48

@effzeh thank you, so it could be worth it then! And I assume it's tax free too? So that means the value is a bit more than your average hourly rate etc.

Effzeh · 31/03/2021 09:56
@effzeh thank you, so it could be worth it then! And I assume it's tax free too? So that means the value is a bit more than your average hourly rate etc.
Yes, definitely worth it, and yes, it's tax-free as well because it counts as winnings from gambling (even though you're not gambling, you know exactly how much profit you will make before you place the bets, regardless of the outcome of the match).

It is time-limited though, as eventually the bookies catch onto you and restrict your account. But if you take it steady and don't hammer every single offer immediately after opening the account, you can get a good few years out of it, if you're prepared to take the time as you go along to learn the more complex offers.

There's also casino - the welcome offers are worthwhile, and there's a few regular offers that I do, including most of the free games because they're free and you can occasionally win a chunky amount. But in the main I tend to stick to matched betting as I prefer smaller guaranteed gains to the possibility of larger wins with the accompanying risk of losses.

muffindays · 31/03/2021 10:14

@Effzeh thank you! great info :)

does it work if you sign up with a new email address? I assume they are onto that kind of thing though!!

Lol, no, they are definitely onto that - you have to provide ID documents for money-laundering purposes, so a simple change of email address will definitely not do it. And technically if you've breached their conditions they can confiscate your money as well as any winnings, so def not advised.

Some bookies (with a few significant exceptions) will allow an account from another person living at the same address, although some people advise using data rather than wifi for the second address. It's a bit of a grey area. They don't allow discussion of multiple accounting on the Team Profit FB page (which is open) but there is extensive discussion of which bookies are 'partner-friendly' on the Team Casino page (which is subscription-only).

muffindays · 31/03/2021 10:59

@Effzeh thanks so much you're so informative and clear. I'm definitely considering all this now :) :)

EmmaC78 · 31/03/2021 18:07

I probably spend about 15 minutes each day during the week and then up to an hour each weekend doing matched betting and this does get me £300 a month with no real effort. As someone said the time is quite front loaded so at the start to takes time to register with each bookie and learn what you are doing but after the first few weeks it is much quicker.

Janaih · 31/03/2021 18:18

Another Team Profit member here, been doing it for a couple of years and make 300-400 a month. A lot more in my first year before the gubbings.

RunningFromInsanity · 31/03/2021 18:35

I started with Team Profit about 2 weeks ago.

It’s not a quick money making scheme.
And you do need more than the advertised ‘start with just £10’ as you need the money for the bookie deposits (ie bet £25, get £10 free bet’ and money in the exchange.

I have made a profit but it’s not that quick and easy in my opinion.

To make lots of money quickly you have to really sign up to various companies that have special calculators and generate matches for you. Otherwise you have to spend time searching for close matches.

I’ve made about £150 in the 2 weeks by using Team Profit and working through their welcome offers.

Janaih · 31/03/2021 18:43

I started with a tenner. I did the welcome offers very slowly, which is the best way imo.

ShanghaiDiva · 31/03/2021 20:25

You do need to spend some time at the beginning learning the difference between the offers eg refund, odds boost, bet x get y etc, however, once you have done a few it’s straightforward and pretty fast.
It does help if you start with more cash as you need a healthy exchange balance to complete the offers.
I am taking a break now as I mainly bet on football, but it’s been a fun lockdown (started in January) activity.
I also use team profit which is free.

TBf if you're only two weeks in it won't be quick or easy yet, because you haven't been doing it long enough for it to feel quick and easy. And I agree that you do need more than a tenner to get started - £50 is more realistic.

You only really need a subscription to one oddsmatching service (something like Oddsmonkey or Profit Accumulator), which is £19.99 per month, but that comfortably pays for itself through their 0% commission arrangements with Smarkets.

Furries · 03/04/2021 03:23

@zigzagzog12 - I would highly recommend doing it. But only if you take the time to understand what you’re doing.

At the start, it will see, like complete gobbledegook! Firstly, sign up to Team Profit website and also their Facebook group (they have an extra FB group for Newbies too). Then, watch/read the guides in their website. When you’re ready to do your first sign-up and bets, post on the newbie group to check what you’re planning on doing is ok - you will always get help to advise you if it’s ok or needs amending.

Secondly, via Team profit guides, sign up to Smarkets. Will sound alien now, but you’ll understand fairly quickly.

Sign up to OddsMonkey. It’s £19 Per month, but worth its weight in gold. Finds best odds matches, can place lay bets directly etc.

The strongest advice/caution I would give to you is re casino. DO NOT attempt any casino offers unless you know what you’re doing. Some sports sites have casino too, and their offers can look very generous - but often they’re not. You need to know what you’re doing,

Also, some sports sites that you’ve signed up to can have good value welcome offers. But they are only available if you’ve not used the casino site before. So, if a site emails you with a “10 free spins offer” or something like that, I’d ignore it. Wait until you’ve built a bankroll to take on casino and the sign up to Team Casino and follow their guides.

Good luck!
