Tax credit - anyone got a date for the £500 payment yet?

I see a lot of tax credit recipients will be getting a £500 lump sum rather than the £20 a week - but has anyone had it yet or had a date for it? I get a small amount of tax credits and can't figure out if I'm eligible for the £500

I’ve just checked what phone number is registered to me and it was wrong, so no wonder I’ve not had a text 🙈

excelledyourself · 03/04/2021 23:41

I've had the text, but I'm worried that I've actually been receiving more ctc than I'm eligible for. My renewal letter said if I thought my salary would be more than xxx to let them know. I couldn't get through and gave up trying, thinking I'll just pay it back if need be.

When I check my gov gateway, there are no future payments for me, so I guess I'm not eligible for ctc anymore

Mine is exactly the same. I have just signed up to gateway. All is shows is our names and edits to make changes.

There is no letter or future payments.

They have said it definitely won't show on the online system as is not a proper payment. I think it is pretty bad that no-one is going to 100% know they are getting this until the money hits bank accounts. Given it's going to people who are on lowish incomes and likely really need the money, being left in the dark so much is really shoddy and lacks transparency.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2021 19:27

@pisspants you can know 100% though if you were entitled to wtc even with a nil award on the specific date you will receive the £500.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/04/2021 13:57

It seems to apply to those claiming CTC but not WTC as income too high- in that case would it go into the WTC or CTC claimant's bank account I wonder?

Jellykat · 05/04/2021 16:58

Oranges Looks like its either WTC or CTC according to the Gov website... I got the text, and haven't claimed CTC for 9 years!

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/04/2021 18:14

@Jellykat @Orangesandlemons77 it only applies not those eligible for wtc either with or with ct. If your wtc is a nil award you will still receive the £500.

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/04/2021 18:15

@Orangesandlemons77 those ctc claimants are in receipt of wtc it’s just reduced to zero due to income. The £500 will go in the wtc claimants bank account.

The one off payment will not show on the app according to gov website. Its totally confusing mind as if you earn to much to receive working tax you are supposed to be eligible. My child and working tax are both £0

My child and working tax are both £0 due to our earnings as we loose the full amount of both. No idea if we still receive this or not based on the fact we are eligible to claim both but our earnings cause us to not receive anything. So confusing. I guess if we receive the payment between now and April 23rd that's great as it would mean affording the kids new beds. If we don't we're not surprised. Cannot work out if we should receive it or not with having a £0 award for both as not heard anything but have seen some people saying they have had a text in our circumstances to say they will receive it.

Nicolan5254 · 05/04/2021 19:33

It’s the unknown really isn’t it. The way they said was they will send texts out to those who are eligible. I will just wait and see and if I’m lucky enough to get it il post on this thread to let you guys know. I think it’s going to anytime from tomorrow til 23rd which is only two weeks away anyway. 🤞🤞

I think i read somewhere anytime from the 10th as they’ve given people until the 8th to change bank details. Sure it was an hmrc response on Twitter.

In Sept last year my WTC went down. Due to my child still doing collage it went back up. But was £20 down on what it had been. We never got the £500 uplift.
So when we do our July returns, I wonder if we will get an extra payment, or if this £500 is to cover it?
Have always got an extra £200 in the past

I don't think anyone got the £500 uplift last year, it's just this year

Whythesadface · 06/04/2021 16:36

Sorry just wondered, was thinking UC had an extra £20 a week.
So wondering if that would be included when we do returns by July for 2020 to 2021.

NoProblem123 · 06/04/2021 17:49

I do hope I get this as my CTC has just dropped significantly ☹️
I don’t get WTC because of my income which is fair enough but I’m hoping I still qualify for this. No text so far though.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/04/2021 18:03

@Whythesadface any one off payments you received in the past were due to underestimating your income. The £500 is instead of the six months £20 a week on UC.

Whythesadface · 06/04/2021 18:14

I know the £500 is for the coming year.
I was thinking about last year
We didn't get an extra £20 a week.
UC did get an uplift worth £1000.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/04/2021 18:25

@Whythesadface you did get the extra £20 a week added to your award.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 18:37

I think some got the £20 but then lost it due to income?

SpideyMom · 06/04/2021 18:44

Last year I dont think anyone was notified of the increase either. It just happened. When my payments rose equivalent to the uplift I just assumed that's what it was.

Mine have already reduced and I'm waiting for a further reduction now my P60 has been issued. Heres to months of reduced payments trying the get my pension contributions taken into account

Do you mean a personal pension?
SpideyMom · 06/04/2021 19:01

My pension is paid after tax. Hence why it takes months of back and forth getting them to take my contributions into account. I cant remember the actual name of it but due to how its taken I need to declare them on my renewal
