Tax credit - anyone got a date for the £500 payment yet?

I see a lot of tax credit recipients will be getting a £500 lump sum rather than the £20 a week - but has anyone had it yet or had a date for it? I get a small amount of tax credits and can't figure out if I'm eligible for the £500

I’m an A surname too and no text, I got one about the saving scheme last week though. Will look into that.
It’s very frustrating I wish they’d let us see more online so we can update in there and change anything easier then see what we will get as not knowing is horrible as I could be ok or really skint will be glad when I don’t need to rely on it anymore. Youngest is 9 so ages yet

No text for me, although our wtc is going down by £140 a month after April which confuses me- were we somehow getting more than £20 uplift? Or has something else changed?

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 31/03/2021 13:08

I think tax credits going down in April is normal to mitigate potential overpayments?

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

Also I'd never heard of the saving scheme - that is brilliant!! Do we just apply through our tax credit account?
Hi...yes its on your government gateway account somewhere...literally took me 2 mins to set up...dead easy.
NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 31/03/2021 13:32

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows I set my savings account up through my HMRC app - it was so easy!

@MyDcAreMarvel I've been telling everyone about it - it's an extra savings account for me with a defined goal so I won't be touching it until the 4 years are up but it's definitely a better return than any of the savings accounts I was looking at to save for a car which is what pushed me to sign up.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 31/03/2021 14:29

Ive had my text today

StormBaby · 31/03/2021 14:37

Still not had my text and I am certain I qualify as get WTC which are dropping down from next week. Surname begins with R

GravityFalls · 31/03/2021 14:46

Ooh...just got my text and I’m near the end of the alphabet! I note it still doesn’t actually say whether I qualify or not, which would make it really mean if it turns out I don’t!

Ive not had a text either and im in the middle of the alphabet.
For those that recieved the £20 uplift payments....were you notified? I've been getting exactly what it said on my paper award notice that came through the post last year.

Reiningitin · 31/03/2021 15:56

Just got my text. I'm near the end of the alphabet. But I am still totally clueless about the reason for the payment I received today so maybe I have already had it. 🤷‍♀️

Snowpatrolling · 31/03/2021 16:06

I haven’t had a text either, I got the uplift tho, but didn’t know about it til I realised my payments had gone up!!! Surname F
My car is about to fail mot so this would be really handy!
Shame they arnt going to put it on the app whether your getting it or not.

perfectpaintingg · 31/03/2021 16:12

Does anyone know if I qualify. Not received text yet. I only get child tax credit but got the £20 uplift. I think I don't get wtc because I earn too much but not sure, I'm confused can't see anything online

Reiningitin · 31/03/2021 16:21

@perfectpaintingg It sounds to me like you qualify. I only get child tax credits too, no working tax credits as I also earn too much. As I have had the text I assume I qualify.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 31/03/2021 16:26

How do you know you got he uplift? Was it just higher payments? I don't really ready the letter behind the payment figure Blush

EvilOnion · 31/03/2021 16:26

We don't qualify for WTC as we "earn too much" (hahaha I bloody wish!) get about £11 a week CTC, received this text this morning so I think we qualify.

I am an R surname.

30scrisis · 31/03/2021 16:54

I only started work on March 1st, not sure if that means I'll be eligible or not!

GravityFalls · 31/03/2021 17:12

Posted this on the other thread too:

Ok, so I messaged HMRC customer support on Twitter with a screenshot of the message attached, asking if receiving the message meant you were definitely eligible, and the reply was “you are correct” - so looks like good news for all us text-havers!

My payments went up by £20 a week, I didn’t get a letter or anything, and they got down by £20 a week next week I think so assumed that was the uplift! Didn’t get an award letter or anything!
pophop · 31/03/2021 17:31

For those who have opened the savings account I mentioned well I meant to add that if you have a joint claim then both of you can open one of the savings accounts. So me and my oh both have one and save the £50 a month each. I don't think we have got the text yet but my oh seems sure we will get the £500

Jellykat · 31/03/2021 17:41

My WTC went up by £20 a week last April, so presumably this £500 payment is instead of and my weekly payment will go down £20.. Seems an odd way of doing things.

Snowpatrolling · 31/03/2021 17:42

@Jellykat did you get a letter about the uplift or did it just happen?

Crappyfridays7 · 31/03/2021 17:46

I just got a text so think it’s random but why can’t they just tell us if we will get it!!
