This suggests that you wouldn't be eligible but maybe you could phone them, or contact Victim Support. if this is true and also for what happened having been through something similar, I know how you feel

You could ask a solicitor to advise on the possiblity of a civil action against the man. You wouldn't be able to claim any criminal injury compensation in this country or the country in which the offence occurred if there was no prosecution resulting in a conviction.

There is the Criminal Injuries Compensation Award Scheme (CICA) in UK for all victims of assaults/crimes. Have tried to google them for you, found their webpage but it won't let me access it.

If you speak to the police officer dealing with your case they should be able to direct you to them and advise you.

But sorry, without accessing the web page I don't know if it counts as was outside the UK.

Get to a solicitor who specialises in compensation claims - you may be able to get a free short consultation. She/he should be able to tell you whether an English court can have jurisdiction to hear a case relating to compensation for a criminal act committed abroad when both parties are domiciled in the UK (presuming that both you and the man live here). Solicitor should also tell you whether or not you are likely to succeed in a civil claim. If you are seeking criminal injuries compensation, I think, though am not sure, that it would probably have to be claimed in the EU country where the offence took place - provided that there is a conviction.
