Does anyone have the full 50k invested in premium bonds account? How much have you won and how long have you had them?
Did you buy them in large bulk or in dribs and drabs?

My parents do. Bought in bulk about 3 years ago. They win £25-100 most months. Maybe two or three months a year where they don’t win anything

Good luck!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/02/2021 19:28

Win £25-50 most months, occasionally nothing sometimes £100.

Chasingsquirrels · 13/02/2021 20:33

Brought them all about a year ago.
Between £25-£75 most months, a couple of months no wins.

I had some years ago as well and averaged the published win rate.

Dinosauraddict · 13/02/2021 21:23

Yes I average c. £75 pm.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 13/02/2021 21:28

Used to have and cashed in and built up in dribs and drabs again. I win 25-50 on average each month.

Dashel · 13/02/2021 21:59

We have two full accounts and usually get 25 to 50 pounds each per month, but I got £500 one month last year which was lovely and a surprise.

Billandben444 · 13/02/2021 22:17

I've had the full amount for about 10 years and usually win 25 - 75. This is always in multiples of 25 though, I've never won a bigger prize. Last month (the first time for a couple of years) I didn't win anything - I think it was because of the recent change in number of prizes.

PigletJohn · 13/02/2021 22:43

people who have the max amount tend to earn almost the nominal prize fund rate, which is currently 1%

so around £500 per year, but randomised. You might win a thousand pounds, or a million, or you might win nothing. The more you have, the nearer you get to the average, and around £50 most months.

I'm in a group where some people like to brag, and it's fairly typical.

As I'm sure you know, winnings are tax free.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/02/2021 11:15

Not £50k yet, more like £30k built up over the past few years as an alternative to overpaying the mortgage, which is virtually interest free.

In 2019, I won about half a dozen £25 prizes, which worked out at around 2% interest averaged over the year and last year I had a biggish win of £1k plus a few £25 wins, so it averaged at around 6% for the year.

Read the Moneysavingexpert analysis. If you have more than about £10k in PBs you have a very good chance of getting close to the stated payout of 1% pa, which means you will almost certainly beat the best instant access account, which is currently 0.5%.

I just buy some with my debit card each month based on how much spare money we have, which depends what went on the credit card last month as this is used for all spending and then cleared every month. It's usually at least a few hundred pounds, up to about £2k if we've had a cheap month, and that's coincided with DP getting an extra wage (he's paid fortnightly and sometimes gets 3 pay days in a calendar month).

That's good!

Wimpeyspread · 14/02/2021 19:15

I do - £25-50 most months, £100 once, some months nothing

bonfireheart · 14/02/2021 19:20

Is PB money at risk like it is with shares etc? If I put £10k in, that £10k remains mine to take out whenever I want to?

No

Yes.

But remember, unlike shares, not only is their no risk of your money shrinking (except by inflation) or being lost, there is also no risk of it growing.

Eddielzzard · 14/02/2021 19:28

I stuck some inheritance in PB and for the first year or so won about £25 a month. Have not won anything for a year now tho.

scrivette · 14/02/2021 19:31

My parents have the full amount and they win £25 most months, occasionally a bit more.

MagmaQuest · 14/02/2021 21:10

It's not a particularly good investment if that's what you're asking. Although it's a safe one. No risk of losing original capital but it won't grow either.

I have the maximum and for the past 2 months I haven't won anything which annoys me! I think the odds have recently worsened. I bought in bulk after an inheritance.

I need to pull my finger out and see what is a better investment to be honest but I suppose the tiny chance of winning big holds me back.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 14/02/2021 21:17

My partner has £30k and not won a damn thing....at least that's what he's told me Grin

tilder · 14/02/2021 21:17

Same. It's a safe investment. You don't make money on a safe investment. But the clever marketing, it's a win not interest, and the chance of a million is very enticing.

We use it for instant access savings, stuff we want to get hold of this year. The average rate of interest is better than most others for that.

I got 8% on my ISA this year. But I could have lost more than that.

RunningFromInsanity · 14/02/2021 21:28

Yes, bought in chunks over the years.
Usually win about £50-£100 a month which I use to automatically reinvest until I got to the maximum amount.

LuckyHedgehog · 15/02/2021 10:11

Yes, the DC and I do; we've had three accounts on maximum holdings for about a year now. We win £25-75 each most months, but it's varied from nothing at all to £125. DS once won £50 but otherwise it's only ever been £25 prizes.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/02/2021 19:34

I have a maximum holding and win virtually every month. My largest win was £5k.

Justbetweenus · 15/02/2021 19:50

£60k beyween me, DH and DC. Most months we win £50-100 between us. Biggest win £500. Over the last 6mo we’ve earned 1.25% in prizes so def better than a savings account.

thatonesmine · 15/02/2021 20:08

I've got the £50k. There's rarely a month I don't win something, usually in the £25 to £100 range, but once I won £1k. That was nice!

Lepetitpiggy · 15/02/2021 20:13

I only have 10k worth and win £25 nearly every month, £50 last month. I think out of 24 months of having them, I've only not won 4 times.
