Maternity allowance

Just after some advice regarding maternity allowance. I'm super confused!

I am not entitled to SMP from my employer as I do not earn enough per week. I am entitled to enhanced maternity pay from them though as I have worked within this job for 8+ years.

I have been informed that I will receive 14 weeks worth of enhanced maternity pay from my employer and then it'll stop and I should claim and receive maternity allowance. On the MA form it's asking me for a start date.

I'm unsure what start date I should give as I would want my MA to start once the enhanced pay has finished. However, on the notes booklet that comes alongside the application form it says MA can start no later than 1 day after baby is born.

I would maybe put your due date as the start date then.
I assume your MA will run alongside the enhanced pay

I've had a look on google and it's no help at all. It does say that any SMP must stop before MA starts. I think I may have to ring up and try and speak to somebody
