Why is everyone chasing my policy?!

In 2017 I took out a new life assurance policy to cover my mortgage.
Not for much money as it didn't need to cover much.
I used a price comparison site and it was set up by a company who looked after it, even though the insurance company is someone else.
Anyway, we are literally talking about a few quids worth of business!
About a year ago, I got an email saying that the company who looked after the policy were no longer operating but a new one had taken over. I didn't really care as I was probably going to change my cover at some point anyway.
Since then I get fairly regular calls from all sorts of companies pretending to be responsible for my policy! I ask them to repeat who they are and I say that they are not the company who is responsible and some get quite angry or I just cut them off.
What I really want to know is why are my details out there now and why is everyone trying to claim my paltry amount of business? I don't understand!

Because you used a comparison site and didn’t tick a box to say no cold callers.

I realised it must be something like that but why do they present themselves as being responsible for my policy? What would they do if I believed them?

It’s a foot in the door.

They are tasked to upset other policies

Up sell

Life insurance
Sick pay
Holiday
Homes insurance

They are after a foot in the door

Oh I see! Thank you
They won't get any business from me so that's that really.
I can't really remember what website I used to get the policy so no chance of going back to amend my details!
