She has been married to this man for 6 years, she wants to get a divorce because he has been violent to her, he has emotionely abused her, kicked her out the house few times, didnt give her money for food...She's from south of america so she's leaving in 3 weeks because she cant put on with it anymore..she has no money to pay for a lawyer to fight her corners..he has all the money and has a good lawyer...they have got a house and the house is into her name...what can she do..surely she deserves the maximum of money ? Someone must be able to help her ? some authorities ?
She has supported him for a couple of years while he was doing his masters, she gave a lot to the relationship...what to do ? I'm sorry I hope you understand my post and that someone is able to help me to help her..I'm so so angry.

She needs to get a free, initial consultation with a solicitor; she can get one set up just by phoning around the yellow pages. However in view of her situation I would suggest you find out for your friend the number of any local 'Women's refuge'; it doesn't mean she has to go to a refuge, but they have often got support workers who can work with women ending marriages who are in this abusive situation....they can attend appointments with her, and 'hold her hand' a bit through the system.

There should be one in most cities, I'm sure.
