Probate

My grandmother has died without a will. The bank etc is asking for probate. The solicitor is going to charge approximately a £1000 - does this sound about right? Is it something I could easily do myself? TIA

Absolutely, follow the steps set out in that link above. It's largely an administrative job, arranging valuation of the estate.

If there is anything such as selling a house for which you need legal advice, you can always use a solicitor for that part.

The rest is just writing for valuations, which anyone can do.

Good luck. It's the last service you can render anyone.

If it's straightforward you could do it yourself, yes. Lots of help online.
