Excel question. Easy if you know excel.

I only have a very basic knowledge, and I haven't used excel for ten years. I've been sent a very large cvs file. There are over 3,000 rows and about 20 columns. Column J has only two words in it, either 'debit' or 'credit'
I want to create a new excel page containing only the rows which have the word 'debit' in column J. I presume this requires a formula? I have no idea what I'm doing lol, but I'll try if someone can help me.

I think you want to add a filter. Google "using filters in excel". Good luck.

Select all the rows and columns. Do a data sort ordering them using column j. Select the credit. Ctrl c. Click on sheet tab at bottom ctrl v and the credit data will appear on the new sheet.

Yup, you can filter as per PP.
Depending on what you need to do with the data after, you may wish to sort by column J, then delete all the rows above the first “debit” entry. You can then sort it however you like, without the credit entries creeping in.
I’d always save a duplicate of the original file before starting to mess about with it, then it’s a case of what’s the worse that can happen...

Use a vlookup

Filter
Select all
Find and select ...go to special ....visible cells only
Copy

And paste into new sheet

Sort on that column and copy and paste the debits

Quick and easy if you aren't familiar with some of the more complicated functions

Yes, any of the above will work. Please save a copy before you do anything. Then if it doesn’t work as planned you have the original to go back to. Good luck.
