Anyone used GoCardless?

It’s a system that facilitates regular cash payments from a client. You as the recipient pay a monthly fee capped at £4/month. I’m considering using it as I have a tenant who needs reminders to pay rent each month. However their website looks rather complicated so I’d welcome views of anyone who uses it. Thanks in advance.

I think there was a hack recently.

We use it at work to take direct debits, had no problems with it. We take hundreds of payments a month - didnt realise individuals could use it.

Our swimming club uses it. I don’t really get it I’ll be honest, I just get an email when they’re taking a payment. Seems a bit like a direct debit. I think it’s made it easier for them with the variations to the monthly cost of the lessons that have happened due to lockdown etc

Sorry, not a hack. It was something on Radio 4 about people being signed up fraudulently.

CiggyStardust · 10/12/2020 20:05

Used it to pay my window cleaner for the past year or so... no issues.

Thanks everyone. Any more examples of people using it would be welcome, especially as payees!

Your tenant needs to set up a standing order to pay their rent, like a grown up, then they won't need a reminder or gimmicks that cost money to pay their basic expenses.

No, you are absolutely right @BarbaraofSeville. The amount of handholding I’ve already had Rio do will only get worse ici carry on in this vein. They need to get their act together and I think they would do it sharpish if it was in their interest, they probably just don’t like the idea if the money going out monthly
