Strange gas elec bill

I've just logged in to my shell energy account and I have a really strange bill. It says this month my electricity was £80 and my gas £1.00.

We have only just started to give metre readings (new house) and I've only given two so far which was 7th November and 2nd December. Before this they would have been estimated.

We have had the heating on for 3 hours a day so the gas is obviously wrong. And I also just can't see how we have spent £80 on just electricity, we are so careful.

In our previous house which was the same size, we spent £60 on both altogether and we always gave readings. I'm going to give them a call but has anyone ever had anything similar?! Is it because we haven't yet given a full month's meter readings?

What were the 2 gas meter readings? You can work out usage that way.

Thanks for your reply! 16463 and then 16505, how do I work it out?

Hi, that means you've used 42 units of gas, if you have a metric meter then this works out to approximately 466 kWh. If you find out how much you pay per KWh and multiply it this will give you the exact cost of the gas used.

Thank you I've worked them both out manually and the gas is too low and the electric is too high, I will wait until I give my next reading as I suspect it might resolve itself.

If they know your meter readings when you move in, and have ongoing meter readings, they'll whittle it to the right figure shortly. If you're uncomfortable paying what they think you owe, get in contact with them. They're probably basing it on previous usage, and will be very lenient with a new customer who likes to contact them regarding bills. They like people like that.

BingleBong29 dont forget to add the standing charge to your sums to, which will be found on your statement.
