22 months ago, my dishwasher, washing machine and fridgefreezer all packed up at the same time I didn't have the cash so a friend very kindly offered to let me buy it from her Studio catalogue and I took her up on it. Total cost of the three items was £990, which I paid in instalments of between £50 and £100 a month depending how much I could afford. It was only after some time that we saw that they add £25 a month 'service charge' and interest on top of that but I would estimate that I have paid off at least £900

During the first year, I had to have the repair man out to the dishwasher 7 times and after 13 months the washing machine died completely (turns out its a known fault with the model) and the fridgefreezer is falling apart, and bits are dropping off the dishwasher too. I wrote to Studio in my friend's name about the washing machine, quoting the sale of goods act and stating it was unfit for the purpose as it should have lasted longer - they ignored all letters and phone calls and to be honest after a few months and some other problems I sort of forgot about it.

According to the latest statement I still owe over £700!!!!!!! which my friend is insisting I continue to pay off as it's in her name and she's worried about her credit rating. I suggested sending them a final payment of say £200 as a goodwill gesture and stating this in a letter, cos I'm really feeling ripped off, but if they won't accept that I'm not sure what to do as my friend will insist on it being paid cos of her credit rating which is fair enough.

Is there anything I can do? I really begrudge handing over money for an appliance that is history and two others which are very shoddy quality.

Hi
Sorry about your situation.
Studio cards charge £25 service charge if you are late with a payment - I found this out when I thought I'd posted my payment and then found it under the seat in my car

I would write to them and say that if they don't sort things you will get Trading Standards involved.

Good luck!
