How much do you earn as a family?

Why I ask. I am currently pregnant - I earn £18k (dental nurse) and my partner earns £60k. We’re in Yorkshire and our mortgage is around £550 a month.
I’m wondering if we would manage if I didn’t go back once my maternity ended.

I think 60k is plenty to live off in Yorkshire

110k ish between us, mortgage is 1650 pm. 1 car owned outright and no debt (pay off credit cards in full each month). Probably save about 2k per month & have enough invested to be mortgage-free.

We live a pretty comfortable lifestyle, but aren’t big spenders. We tend to save and buy things outright, don’t have big TV packages or mobile phone contracts. I do like to shop online for clothes, makeup etc but will make a list of what’s needed & shop around.

We shop in Aldi, normally go out to eat a couple of times per week but normally for lunch so cheaper. We probably do have too much takeaway though. Every other year, we will do a big holiday somewhere long haul.

The budget means we know exactly where to cut back and when to spend. This time of year is always more expensive but I have a savings account specially for it.

I’m due our first soon, and we are cutting our cloth to allow me to return 4 days pw. I’ve been saving about 8k specifically for maternity leave & then we have another chunk for childcare costs which we will continue to build up.

Splitting your savings into chunks allows you to account for it. I wouldn’t quit your job entirely, but more so for your own independence than anything.
