Cold weather payment

How would I know if I was entitled to cold weather payment. I have 2 children in receipt of DLA one middle rate one high. Get a small amount of child tax credits.
I have definitely recieved it before a few years ago but not recently that I can show on bank statements, it obviously hadn't been cold enough last 2 winters.
Do they send you a letter saying you will get it if the temperature drops?

www.gov.uk/cold-weather-payment

@dementedpixie I checked there first it only says you may recieve it if you have a child with a disability. I need proof I would receive it if the temperature dropped to access some other funding.

Do you get any of the benefits they mention?:

You may get Cold Weather Payments if you’re getting:

Pension Credit
Income Support
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Universal Credit
Support for Mortgage Interest

Is it for all people on UC though ? People could have an income in excess of 40k and still get Uc if they have a few kids and a high rent ?

dementedpixie · 22/11/2020 20:09

No, there has to be other elements you need to qualify but the starter point is being eligible for one of those benefits. For UC claimants its;

You’ll usually get Cold Weather Payments if you getUniversal Creditand you’re not employed or self-employed. One of the following must also apply:

  • youhave a health condition or disabilityand have limited capability for work (with or without work-related activity)
  • you have a child under 5 living with you

You’ll also be eligible if you have a disabled child amount in your claim, whether you’re employed or not.

We are still on tax credits. And get a disability element and severe disability element. The wording is so unclear on the gov website.
Would they send you a letter to say you will get it or would they only do that if they paid, so when the temperature dropped.

You would only get the letter if you qualified for it.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 24/11/2020 19:48

This seems to suggest you should qualify OP

@WouldstrokeTomHardy

You would only get the letter if you qualified for it.
So only if the temperature drops and they are going to pay it?
OP posts:
WouldstrokeTomHardy · 24/11/2020 19:54

Yes I think if it drops to 0 degrees for a certain time.

PandaBabyJuly · 24/11/2020 19:55

If the temperature drops below the requirement for the specified days they will put it into your bank where you receive any benefits into already and then send you a letter also

umberellaonesie · 25/11/2020 15:28

But wouldn't get a letter to say if the temperature drops you will get a cold weather payment.
So do you think qouting the website will be enough proof to say I would qualify for the cold weather payment on the even the temperature drops
