@WotsitWiggle how did you pay for the item? A lot of mine had the option of Paypal which I chose for all the ones where it was available. If you used Paypal you have a pretty good chance of getting a full refund.

TeddyDidIt · 20/11/2020 09:32

One of my items (£100) has now said it was pre-order (definitely didn't say this at the time!) and won't be shipped until Dec 10th at the earliest. Another has come completely different to what was in the advert - think craft hobby item that is a different hobby to the one ordered. I have asked about returning for that reason and they've basically said - 'it's nice though, why don't you do this instead?' Confused so I'll probably end up going through PayPal for that one.

WotsitWiggle · 20/11/2020 09:46

@anxiouswaiting I used Revolut because it converts currency without a fee and half of mine were US dollars. I could do a chargeback, I might try it out of principle! Next time I will do Paypal, I wouldn't normally touch these kind of sites with a bargepole so I wasn't sure what was best.

TeddyDidIt · 20/11/2020 11:30

The seller who sent the wrong item has now offered 'compensation' in the form of 10% off my next order but no returns or refund for this wrong item. Shock I too usually wouldn't touch these sites with a barge pole for exactly this reason.

Tattiespuds · 20/11/2020 13:29

Can I ask a question to the potatoers ..... i never raised an invoice last month as it was under £20 so will be raising two next month.. Will be going for bank transfer as I assume (as per my previous question) that's cheapest. I found the example invoice but what exactly do I put in the description box?

MrsWombat · 20/11/2020 13:59

@Tattiespuds I would put two lines on the invoice, one for October and one for November, with the grand total at the bottom.

Dimsummummy · 20/11/2020 14:11

@Tattiespuds it tells you on the wiki. Fairly sure it’s send 2 invoices and clearly state 1/2 and 2/2 and want payment for both 😊

Tattiespuds · 20/11/2020 14:17

Yeh it says on wiki two invoices for each month, but I mean what do write in the description. So I right a total number of items or is there ref from statement or what? I'm sure this is fairly obvious but I can't seem to see it on wiki and don't want to get it wrong and not get paid

ZetaPuppis · 20/11/2020 14:39

Could I please just ask potatoe people, do you use a mouse? I’m thinking that might be faster? Thanks.

Redcrayons · 20/11/2020 15:16

@ZetaPuppis yes. Not used the laptop pad,
but it seems like it would be time consuming.

There’s a tip sheet on the wiki about getting faster, it suggests using space bar but I couldn’t work that out.

Redcrayons · 20/11/2020 15:18

@Tattiespuds I just say ref statement plus month. I don’t go down to detail if each item.

seizethecuttlefish · 20/11/2020 15:54

@ZetaPuppis I tried a mouse but I'm too used to using the track pad 🤦🏻‍♀️ I find I need to go on regularly. If I miss a few days, I get much slower. I tried the space bar thing and I just couldn't get it! I was wondering if you can do it touchscreen? I find after an hour my fingers don't work properly!

OP posts:
Buster27 · 20/11/2020 17:04

@ZetaPuppis I find track pad quick enough so haven't considered using a mouse, could be worth a go though.

ElectricEels · 20/11/2020 17:06

@ZetaPuppis I use the space bar/arrow keys to select and enter key to submit. Much quicker than using the mouse or laptop mouse pad.

ElectricEels · 20/11/2020 17:07

@Tattiespuds 'RA services 1st to 31st October'

ElectricEels · 20/11/2020 17:08

*October 2020

Tattiespuds · 20/11/2020 17:21

Thanks all! I know what I'm doing now.

@ZetaPuppis I used a mouse until last week but finding it much easier to use laptop pad to select then hit enter, I have one hand on pad and one at enter key and it's much faster. I can use space bar to move between options but enter doesn't select for me but once selected enter then submits/next question it

ZetaPuppis · 21/11/2020 00:04

Thanks everyone. I’m using the mousepad at the moment. I did some after almost a week and was so slow. Though I have only had 4 hrs sleep last night so that doesn’t help. It does require focus.

Lougle · 21/11/2020 19:28

Hello! I hope you're all well. It's great to see these threads still going.

I was hoping for some help. I think I've stuffed up, but I don't know how big a problem it is.

I joined these threads in Jan/Feb and got my first payment from Utest in early February. I stopped doing Utest after a few months, but did well while I did it. I think in total, I earned around £1400.

I thought I had until January to register as SE. I won't have any tax to pay, but I think I still need to register because I earned over £1000. Now I'm reading something about October, which has passed.

Will I be in big trouble?

Tinging · 21/11/2020 20:07

@Lougle did you earn over £1000 between when you started in Feb and the 5th of April? If not you don’t need register as that’s when the tax year ends. Any earnings after 5th April are a new tax year and you have the £1000 allowance.

Lougle · 21/11/2020 20:19

Yes, unfortunately my payment on April 1st took me to £1114.32.

Redcrayons · 21/11/2020 20:20

@Lougle also, the self assessment deadline is Jan 31st so you haven’t missed it.

October is if you’re doing paper returns rather than online, I think?

Lougle · 21/11/2020 20:21

So my earnings from April to May won't require registration, but from Jan to April was over.

Lougle · 21/11/2020 20:22

I read something that said the very latest you can register is October 5th. If that's not true, I'll register straight away.

Tinging · 21/11/2020 20:28

@Lougle oh that’s annoying. You are right, you have missed the deadline to register as self employed which is October but you have until end of Jan to do your return. Penalties are only really mentioned on the .gov website in relation to late returns so maybe you’ll be ok. May be best to ring them for advice? I called them recently because I’d made an error and they were really helpful and sorted out the issue over the phone.

All the deadlines, penalties etc are here:
www.gov.uk/self-assessment-tax-returns/deadlines
