Anyone had a. "Are you sure you are single" letter

Just asking about if I am in a relationship with anyone even if I don't live with them should I be making a joint claim.

I am single but I am seeing someone who has nothing to do with my house or finances

There have been threads about these letters in the past. Maybe they're sending out another batch

I had one years ago. I just rang them and explained my situation (which was similar to yours). It was fine.

dementedpixie · 31/10/2020 17:35

Does the letter not say ignore it if you have nothing more to disclose to them?

WhyNittyBitty · 31/10/2020 19:15

Said no need to let them know only if any thing is different. Just annoys me these things make it sound like I can't date anyone without asking them to contribute to my house and child

Pretty sure it's a standard letter

howimetyourmother · 01/11/2020 14:19

Just a standard letter.

Livelovebehappy · 01/11/2020 17:08

Standard letter, but I thought only issued if you they had received some information suggesting otherwise? I received one once when separated but he was on a joint account with me as if I removed him I would have lost my overdraft, so kept him on. I explained and it was okay.

It is a generic letter and does not mean you are specifically being investigated.

This nasty government will take anything you say and use it against you, affecting your finances and the security of your kids. So don't respond or say anything unless they write to you specifically about your situation.

dementedpixie · 02/11/2020 11:43

Its almost like a phishing letter trying to catch people out and making them think they're in trouble or doing something wrong

I had this letter last week. I am very much single, nothing at all, hiding in my closet! I have had the same re: council tax which I just ignored. There was no come back. It’s just a reminder.

I imagine it’s to frighten those who are living with a partner and pretending they don’t . If you aren’t then I wouldn’t worry .
