JSA with savings

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if JSA can be claimed whilst having over £16k savings? If not are there any other benefits that can be claimed for someone who has been made redundant?

Thanks

Yes, you may be able to claim New Style JSA which is based on your national insurance record (you need to have been working the last 2/3 years) and is not means tested. It lasts for 6 months.

As above if the redundant person has paid sufficient Ni contributions over the qualifying tax years ( 2017-18 and 2018-19 )then they should be able to claim new style JSA which is contributions based. Any means tested benefits like UC cannot be claimed with savings of more than 16k. New style JSA can be easily claimed online via the Gov.uk site and last for 6 months only.
