Been given PayPal refund but no mention of returning item?

I ordered something ages online and it came today. It looks completely different from what I ordered so I emailed the company through PayPal, with a picture of the item and the link to the website.
I got a refund almost immediately. There is no mention of me returning the item and there’s no return address. So do I need to return it? Or do I keep it?

In this situation I would email the company and ask them what they wanted me to do with the item.

Oh yeah, I never thought of that! 😂 thanks.

I wouldn't return it, or offer to return it, unless they were paying the return postage. It's their mistake not yours.

Ok, that makes sense.

On other threads I’ve seen about how you say that you will make the item available for them to collect within the next 30 days at a mutually agreed time and that if it isn’t collected with that time it will be disposed of/donated to charity etc

That way you are putting all the costs and effort on them rather than you. Obviously you would need to decide on the times etc that you think would be reasonable so you wouldn’t be unreasonable to say pick up in the next 4 weeks whereas to say in the next 4 days would be. Likewise if they said we are not around at the moment due to covid/holiday/etc could you wait 6 weeks that would be reasonable but waiting 6 months wouldn’t be.

If Paid via PayPal they’ll refund you the postage price up to £15 12 times a year I believe it’s so I’d not worry about this If you were requested to return it

Was the item cheaper than a courier to collect it would be? They might not bother if it's something small and cheap.
