I couldn’t agree more @BSintolerant and @CodenameVillanelle. Unfortunately “coach” and “therapist” can mean a huge range of things, as we know. I’m really concerned by his forays into therapist territory, because of the people who may seek him out. On one of the threads someone comments about a relative and wanting to get them involved in the WW programme, but they sound vulnerable and as if they are really struggling - this is not somewhere WW should go. From what I can see, WW is using vulnerable others to shore himself up, that’s not a good thing at all. Speaking as a psychotherapist myself, there’s a huge amount of initial and ongoing training around the MH Acts, around safeguarding, around risk management. We are trained to recognise what is beyond our remit. There’s nothing more scary that someone who has done a quick counselling or therapy course thinking they can handle someone who may present as one thing but be properly unwell. The properly trained and experienced are not nearly so gung-ho. I wonder how he will spot potential risk, how he will manage it? If he has “therapeutic” input into someone’s life and they harm themselves he could have to attend an inquest. How will he explain his approach, will he be able to produce notes about the therapy session by session? Is he insured? We have to have fairly hefty insurance. Where will he go for guidance - to his clinical supervisor? Does he think that online groups via Facebook allows him to opt out of responsibility if something happens? It is really concerning that anyone can set themselves up as a therapist and pay for an “accreditation” - how are the public supposed to know what they’re getting?
In a since deleted thread WW mentions “handing all his power to homeschool”. Here’s someone who has just come to the end of another relationship where he was the victim of emotional abuse. He needs to do some thinking about whether he is the victim every time because it’s hard to compute that having watched his lives with Homeschool and his manipulation of various women (why just women WW?) in his programmes. Of course I’m not an expert on his past but he does use this a bait which just gets me thinking he’s really very bad news. Being “Zany” and dungareed, like a narcissistic Mr Tumble is not enough of a distraction from his rather sinister behaviour, to my mind.
