£100 on full holding here!

Gazelda · 02/12/2020 23:05

@combatbarbie

We put in £15k a couple years ago and won a few £25s. When we changed addresses we started winning again for a few months. When I updated the kids address on their £200 they also won £25. So now I routinely take out and put back in.
Your winnings/no winnings are not connected to new deposits, change of address etc. All bond numbers are entered into every draw, so have the same chances as every other entry.

And surely by taking money out and reinvesting you're reducing your chances because of the 30 day wait between deposit and your numbers being entered into the draw?

Gazelda · 02/12/2020 23:11

£50 this month, £300 in total this year on £30k holdings.
1% interest, I'm happy with that.

1Logan1 · 02/12/2020 23:16

After reading this I just checked the website , won £100 this month 😀

Crack on with this if you like but all you are doing is reducing your chances of winning because every time you do this, you have to miss the draw following the month you buy the new bonds.

Eg if you did this today, you're making yourself ineligible for the January draw and won't be in it again until February.

Untangled87 · 03/12/2020 06:24

Yeah, it's not exactly the best idea. Why would anyone want to throw away a chance to win a million pounds? You might as well just go down to the shops, buy a lottery ticket and tear it up. It would have the same effect and might work out cheaper.

Each to their own, but there's zero evidence behind the theory that newer bonds have a better chance of winning. It's just superstition.

combatbarbie · 03/12/2020 07:39

My money my choice.......seems very convenient that when you update personal details that the following month it starts winning again after months or years of nothing. I use bonds to try and boost its value against a normal savings account.

Does anyone actually know anyone who's won £1m?

OublietteBravo · 03/12/2020 07:57

I find the opposite @combatbarbie. Nearly all of my prizes are linked to my oldest £12k investment. Despite the fact that I’ve invested two further lots of £12k more recently.

Anecdotes like that are meaningless, you have to consider the product on a population level, but as you say, your choice.

Most people won't know big premium bond winners, as there's two a month out of a population of 66 million and that's not what people are generally in PBs for anyway. Its to boost the value against normal savings, as you say.

Why is why it makes no sense to voluntarily give up chunks of interest for no reason like you are doing.

UkSky · 03/12/2020 09:14

Another £75 for me. That's £150 in 2 months on full holding.

UkSky · 03/12/2020 09:25

Does anyone know, as I couldn't find on their website can I buy in my husband's name on my account when I have a full holding?

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/12/2020 09:28

I won on two bonds this draw, first time i decided to move my savings from my ISAs/savings accounts. I then moved another £7k over so I’m praying I’m super lucky at some point and win a few thousand 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

FAQs · 03/12/2020 09:28

Your husband has to have his own account, in his name, it won’t be connected to yours.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/12/2020 09:33

I don't know if you can buy for other adults. You can buy for children, but in any case, you'd probably need the holder's number at least.

I keep meaning to ask DM as I know she's been buying for my nieces and nephews/her DGC and I was going to get some for them too.

FAQs · 03/12/2020 09:35

You can’t buy for any other adult, and once a child reaches 16 the account moves to their control.

To buy in another adult name I suspect would also breach money laundering rules.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/12/2020 09:45

I do have one theory that seemed to play out when I had premium bonds in the past. If I paid in in dribs and drabs I seemed to rarely win, so I withdrew all of them and reinvested with one chunk of money and started winning regularly. So I think there is definitely something in that.

I’m kicking myself that I paid in my savings in two chunks to be honest. I shall leave it be but if I feel in the future I’ve had no luck for a while I’ll withdraw the two amounts abs reinvest as one.

loutypips · 03/12/2020 09:49

Just found about £200 worth of bonds that my Nan had. She died this year and my mum who was listed as executor has also died. Will my dad who is executor of my mums will be able to claim these?

And my poor nan who had brought most of these in the 50's never won a penny (as far as I'm aware!). My 35 year old bonds have won zero too Sad

BarbaraofSeville · 03/12/2020 09:58

Most small holdings never win anything, although a few will, each individual £1 bond has exactly the same chance of winning, it's just larger holdings have more bonds, so more chances - its like having 10 raffle tickets instead of 1. Someone with a £210 holding from decades ago won £25k in either this draw or the last one and if you look at the list of big winners on the NS&I website, there's always someone with a few bonds from decades ago that's won big, but obviously that's a one off out of millions of people.

You can check on the website to see if bonds have ever won and there's probably information about what to do about bonds registered to someone else who has passed away.

If your Mum and Dad were married at the time of your Mum's death, then the bonds will now belong to your dad so he'll be able to get them registered in his name.

My parents have bought my daughter some bonds but all the letters are coming to me. Is it possible to add her account to my online profile so that I can view hers too?

FAQs · 03/12/2020 10:24

£17 won the million in 2004, although I bet incredibly rare!

You could try putting her holders number in the app. I have two holders numbers because I have a very small amount of bonds bought by a grandparent decades ago and for some reason that I don't remember when I started buying them as an adult, I ended up with a new number, probably because I couldn't find the old information at the time. I have both my holders numbers on different tabs in the app so I can check them both, but they are both in my name.

I did try joining them up last year, but when I wrote to them, they refused to do it because 'my signature didn't match the one on record'. That would have been the signature that I provided when I was ten years old then Grin. So I gave up at that point. I can see from the app that these bonds have never won anything, and if they do they know where I am or I'll chase them at that point, but seeing as they think I either live where I do now, or at my childhood home, that DM still lives in, there's practically no chance of my million not coming to me if it ever does via those bonds, which it probably won't anyway.

sorry I have only just bought mine, do they not email you to let you know if you have won something? Or do you actually have to go on and check?

OublietteBravo · 03/12/2020 11:22

They email you to say you’ve won, but they don’t tell you the amount. You have to login or use the app to find out this information.

iwantavuvezela · 03/12/2020 12:27

I have won £25 last month (first month eligible) - nothing this month - it’s £10.000 of my emergency money that I put n Bonds for easy access when needed and hoping for a win!
