Extricating myself from self assessment

Does anyone know how you do this? I used to be a director of a limited company and also briefly rented out a property. Neither apply now and all my income is taxed through PAYE. HMRC is still making me complete the dreaded tax return and it’s a complete pain - how do I make it stop?

Give them a call or do a web chat, tell them SA doesn't apply anymore, they will close your file and you will be free!

As userxx says. I've used webchat a few times recently (as an agent) and found it really good.

Thank you both. Off to do it now. I’ll feel as if a weight’s been lifted.

Hope you've got it all sorted OP. For all HMRC's reputation, I have only ever found the people who answer queries relating to self assessment to be incredibly helpful (and patient and kind when my questions were utterly stupid) and quick to sort issues like this out.

I've spent most of the morning trying to get onto the web chat and it's very busy!! Think staff have been pulled to help with furlough etc.
