Tax Credits

Hi
Iv been receiving child and working tax for years.
My son has just turned 16 and is starting college in September. I informed HMRC and child benefit but looking at my online tax credits, it says renewal in process but no payments due (I normally get paid every Tuesday). Anyone any idea what's happening. I'm worried sick.
Thank you.

They're taking a long time to process stuff atm, so as long as they've got the info it'll sort itself out in the end.

I suspect they're WFH and stuff, so things aren't running quite as they usually are.

I've spoken to them and they won't update the app until 1st September at the earliest. This is how it's always worked even pre covid.

Hi - has your issue resolved yet? I am in exactly the same position - I notified that my son was staying in education in good time. However, he his name has now been removed from the claim. I had to go through the process of adding him back on to it - now it says that this will take 2 weeks to process. When I telephoned (and eventually got through - having suffered being cut off on many occasions and then a wait of nearly an hour on hold) I was told that no payment is showing on the system for this week's payment day. Apparently, there are system delays which should be resolved by 5th September! With absolutely no notification from them, I have no idea how they imagine we should be able to plan, budget or cope with no income!

I'm the same, DD started 6th form this week, I've just checked my account and it is now showing I am due a payment soon. I've checked everyday since the 1st

schoolcook · 04/09/2020 06:28

Mine is still showing as no payment due. I've checked my bank as it's due in Monday and would usually show as pending and there's nothing there. I can't see it being sorted by Monday.

I'm the same, payments normally go in on a Thursday but none received and nothing showing in app. I filled the form
In and sent back ages ago. I tried to ring a couple of days ago and a recorded message said - if you're ringing due to payments not updating because of child entering higher education or training please hang up and it will get updated in September!
Keep checking but no updates yet and no money!

Raggletagglegypsy · 04/09/2020 09:26

I did a webchat this morning. My account - for progress - is showing that the claim is not even being worked on. I was told that as it is related to education, it will not be looked at until the 1st September (even though it is now the 4th September!). It should then take 3 to 5 working days beyond the 1st Sep. When I asked whether I could, therefore, expect a payment by the 6th September I was told that there was no way of knowing when the payment would be made! I was then told that I would just need to keep checking my account for further updates!

Mine have updated in the app this afternoon and shows my normal payment day next week plus a small payment the day before. I think I'm still down a bit but am just glad to see it there!

Hi ladies, I’m in a similar situation.

My payments have stopped despite me not having informed HMRC that my twins have started uni, because they haven’t as yet, and won’t until mid October.

Really worried!

LakieLady · 04/09/2020 19:29

They stop being included in tax credits from 1 Sept, @Lilolily, because they are no longer in "full-time non-advanced education".

Lilolily · 04/09/2020 19:41

Ah, ok. I did wonder. Thanks x

PoprocksAndCoke · 05/09/2020 13:23

I didn't get payment on Wednesday and my account showed no payments due. On Thursday I had a new payment schedule with a one off payment on tues (small amount, I did worry this would be my new amount) then on wed I get a new regular amount about £7 a week more than before.

They only pay you tax credits until the end of the August after they are 18, they don't pay you after this even if they start uni, so you won't be due any more payments

My dd1 is starting a level 3 training course at her school on Monday, she is 19 in October. I was told by HMRC chat service that I can get another year of tax credits for her because she is in non advanced education.

My daughter changed one of her a-levels after a year and therfore needed to do an extra year in the 6th form, I gotntax credits for her until the aug after she turned 19, as was classed as non advanced education
H1978 · 06/09/2020 22:56

Yes that’s right

They only pay you tax credits until the end of the August after they are 18, they don't pay you after this even if they start uni, so you won't be due any more payments no if in full time non advanced education tax credits continue till the day before the young persons 20th birthday.
