Can anyone explain how these work please.

Do they stay on your file forever if you don't pay them back ? How do you go about finding out what it was for if you have no idea where it came from ?

Thanks

A CCJ remains on your credit file for six years regardless of whether you pay the debt or not; except if you pay it within a month of receiving the judgement in which case it can be removed immediately.

You can access your credit file through one of the main credit referring agencies - there will be details of the CCJ and the creditor who applied for it there. You can also request information on yourself through Trust Online, the official register.

Brilliant, so the credit file will show the details. Thanks for that, it's a big help.

Look at the citizens advice webpages for debt advice. If you have no idea what this debt was for then you should get advice as it may be that the creditor didnt follow the correct legal process and you might be able to get it set aside.
