Income protection

Hi all

I have been made redundant (thanks Covid!) and I am in the process of claiming aginst out income protection. They have stated they will be out for up to a year Maximum or until I find employment.

One of the terms is I need to apply for jobseekers and actively look for work which I will be.

If anyone has experience or has been through this, if I don’t find a job in 6 months (which i’m
Hoping wont happen but I have to work around my 2 year old’s childcare and husbands job so my job choices are limited),what happens to the protection payout if the jobseekers stops?

If the contract says that they will pay for a year then they will pay for a year, regardless whether the jobseekers stops.

They just want evidence of jobseekers because it’s evidence that you are looking for a job as you will have to submit job searches to claim.
If your job seekers stops then they will ask you to submit evidence of job searches. I know as I’m in the same situation as you and think it will be for the long haul as I also have to work around the children and many of my work requires travel!

Yes they have asked me to keep evidence of all job searches and interviews so hopefully that will be fine . Fingers crossed it all works out. I don’t have faith in insurance companies and assume something will stop them paying.

@Widowodiw fingers crossed for you.

@Widowodiw are they paying out OK? I keep meaning to sort out insurance and getting a bit baffled by all the options, if yours have been OK about paying out I'd be interested in knowing who the provider is if you don't mind sharing.

They have agreed to pay from September as my redundancy was paid in lieu. I just need to send evidence of job search or benefits. When I claimed last time it was really this simple, no one ever really checked or asked me anything other than evidence of benefits.

My provider is Barclays..... obvs they have a third party delivering it not sure who that is. My policy is donkey years old though probably from 2005.

I was concerned that they wouldn’t pay out as I thought they would argue that Covid was exceptional circumstances, but that hasn’t been the case.

Pinkiii · 23/08/2020 21:33

@Widowodiw that’s reassuring, im really worried they will use covid as an excuse to not pay.

In ther claim form they even ask if my job loss is down to covid.

I was worried about force majeure Tbh as I’m sure they could have claimed Covid was an exceptional circumstance. However I read my policy t&c beforehand and it was mentioned. I’m not sure how they would prove it anyway.
They may contact your employer to ask them if you were made redundant but I imagine they will just say yes and they won’t go into detail with a third party as to why you’ve been made redundant. I just sent them my redundancy contract so they didn’t contact my company.
