Tax credits question

Linnet · 20/08/2020 15:05

We receive tax credits and I got the renewal form through the post back in May. I phoned them up to confirm all the information was correct and tell them that dd is staying at school to do her highers. I thought I’d get another letter from them but nothing has come through and I put it down to Covid.
The weekly payments have been going in to the bank as normal but I had the renewal letter out last night and noticed that it says the payments are up until August 31st.

What happens after that? Dd is staying on at school and I’ve informed them of that . Will the payments just stop? Or should they just continue? Does anyone else’s letters say this?

Did they send you a separate form to fill in with the details of DD's course (what level it is, where she will be living, when it starts & ends).

ZenZebra · 20/08/2020 15:15

I've just checked and it says until 31st August on mine too, but the letter was sent out before they would have received the returned form with the course details on it.

Sunnydaysandsalad · 20/08/2020 15:17

I did a live chat about this very thing last week!
Apparently on 1/9 the system updates as your change will have occurred and new letters with the updated payment amounts will be sent out.. Payments continue with no break. Hope that makes sense!

I know it's not my thread, but that was really helpful to me too. Thank you. Flowers

No I’ve had nothing in the post at all. I told the guy on the phone that she was staying on at school to do her Highers and he said that was fine.

That’s reassuring to hear, I’ll just sit tight then and see what happens after August 31st.

Thanks

Hi - how has this gone for you? I was in the same position - but, despite having informed them that my son is staying on to do A Levels - he has now simply dropped off my claim and I am due to receive no payment tomorrow!

H1978 · 02/09/2020 19:59

I had an online chat with someone from HMRC today and they said most claims will be renewed by tomorrow or Friday and any back payments will be paid too. I’d probably give them until next week at the latest and then start an online chat, it’s the quickest way to get information. I went from 58 in the queue to first in 15 minutes.

Reddog1 · 03/09/2020 00:19

My payment halved yesterday (Wednesday) so I contacted them (the webchat service is really good) and they told me that it would be corrected by next week, or possibly Friday this week. It’s happened to most people with DC16. It will be ok.

Same here, it’s a shock when the numbers falls so dramatically. Shock

Mines was updated today. I didn't get a payment this week but they restart on tues with a one off payment ( a lot smaller payment) then a on every wed at a higher amount. I'm assuming to cover last weeks missed payments

Linnet · 03/09/2020 21:47

I haven’t had anything change yet. My payments go in on a Monday, so the last one went in last Friday since it was a bank holiday. Nothing has been added since, I’ll just have to wait and see if something goes in next Monday.

Mines might have been done sooner as my payment was due wed and I didn't get it as was in sept after the cut off.
On tues my online account said that they couldn't deal with my account and to ring, on Wed it went back to saying my renewal was complete and yesterday it had a new payment structure so hopefully yours will update soon

Linnet · 07/09/2020 11:04

I had no payment today so did a web chat where the guy told me that I’ll get a payment tomorrow then it will continue on Mondays as normal.

Can you not log in to check your payments online?

Have you told CB about your D.C. staying on?

Raggletagglegypsy · 07/09/2020 11:38

I have done a webchat. My online account updated on Friday to say that it would all be processed by today - but still nothing!

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 07/09/2020 16:31

Mine dropped by £60 this week. I got on the phone and I think the man was trying to tell me about the system update and that it should return to normal by this Thursday. The cynic in me was convinced that this was the government's way of trying to force me onto universal credit. We shall see 🧐

I dont think so, I didn't get a payment last wed but the system has now updated and I get a payment tomorrow and then on Wed I get a new regular payment, about £7 a week more, I guess to make up for the week I mlssed

No, I’ve never signed up for an online account so can’t check it there. And yes I filled in the form for child benefit and sent it back when it came in back in April.

I don’t need to sign up, the guy on the web chat told me what the payments would be and they have gone into the bank today so all is well.

Oh. Ok. It was just a helpful suggestion. Never mind.

H1978 · 09/09/2020 15:31

It’s good to have an account so you can check it yourself without having to contact them. Also, it’s the easiest way to renew or report any changes.
