Sorry I just need to completely rant here cause I am so so so fed up of my financial situation. I was meant to start a new job a day before lockdown but obviously never got to start and that job has since fell through. At the beginning of April I emailed my old work and asked about furlough and was told they would get back to me in 3 days, got nothing so emailed a week later asking for an update. Again nothing. Emailed again 2 weeks after that and no reply, emailed every 2 weeks for about a month, being a complete pain in the arse but then again I had no income bar universal credits. Still to this day I have not heard back and of course they are open now so not paying furlough. I only get £500 universal credit a month and that barely covers my bills, I've been looking for a job but had nothing as no where is looking for anyone and I also have a daughter I have to work around as a single parent. My car at the beginning of lockdown got a burst tyre but I never had the money to replace it and now I don't have the money and the car is still sat there with a dead battery now as my key battery died and again can't afford to fix that. I need a job to fix my car but a car to get to a job as I live in a remote area. I am so fed up. Just wanted a rant because life seems to be falling apart and I can't be arsed anymore

have you used a benefit calculator, OP, to find out if you are entitled to anything else aside from universal credit?
www.entitledto.co.uk/
turn2us can offer help with things like pointing you in the direction of local schemes that could help in your area, telling you things you could be entitled to etc
www.redcross.org.uk/get-help/get-help-with-money-problems##
you could try calling them when the phone lines open tomorrow.

all the best x

£500 Uc doesn't sound correct unless you have savings that are reducing it. Are you sure al the elements are correct on your claim? Do you have rent to pay?

Acdcccc · 07/08/2020 05:53

Yea definitely double check your entitlement

Have you considered getting an advance from universal credit to fix the car?

I'm in exactly the same situation problem is I've not been with UC long enough to get an advance 😕so stuck between a rock and a hard place
