Out of interest what age did you pay off your mortgage or what age will you be when you anticipate paying it off?

Long time ago, 42-ish I think. Always had 15-year mortgages. Once the mortgage was paid off I started getting the house updated.

motherf88 · 05/08/2020 14:03

I'll be 64 Angry although planning to significantly overpay and reduce that. Went for a long term because of south east property prices

HarrietM87 · 05/08/2020 14:03

I’ll be 56 unless manage to pay it off early. Got a 25 year mortgage at 31.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 05/08/2020 14:03

If all goes to plan we’ll be 45

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 05/08/2020 14:04

We got a 15 year mortgage

ComeOnEileen11 · 05/08/2020 14:05

I'll be 55. Got a 25 year mortgage at 30. Have already started overpaying here and there. Would like to chop at least 5 years off, but need to sit down and do the maths on 'serious' overpayments. I have plenty of time though as that probably won't be until nursery fees are done.

MerryGrinchmas1 · 05/08/2020 14:06

If nothing crops up we are hoping it'll be done by 40 🤞🏻

Lazypuppy · 05/08/2020 14:09

If we don't overpay it will run until we are 68.

Aiming to get it paid off my 60

MrsMcTats · 05/08/2020 14:12

36, but we will move again as we need more space, so will probably have to get a small mortgage.

Mintjulia · 05/08/2020 14:13

First one at 45. Then I took another one at 48 and will be finished at 65 unless I pay it off sooner. It’s down to the last £30k so hopefully won’t take long.

sunrainwind · 05/08/2020 14:23

61 if we carried on making normal payments. With our overpayments it should take it down to 57 but we will get a lump sum when my husband retires when I'm around 54 so hoping by then at the latest.

However - we have a lot of equity and could down size and live mortgage free if it became an issue.

Bargebill19 · 05/08/2020 14:25

30

Totallycluelessoverhere · 05/08/2020 14:37

If all goes to plan it will be paid off in 3 years when I am 44.

SnuggyBuggy · 05/08/2020 14:39

We are cautiously optimistic we will pay it off by our early 40s. We've stuck extra money on it every year so far.

hellywelly3 · 05/08/2020 14:41

I’ll be 51 but hoping to over pay once the kids are a bit older and I’ll be working full time

Juno231 · 05/08/2020 14:52

In no rush to pay it off tbh. Interest rates are super low and I'd rather just stick my money in investments in the meantime. I'd also plan to get a couple of fixer uppers before getting a forever home, so the increase in value on those can help pretty much pay off the last home, rather than spending my money on overpayments early on. Basically I want my money to work for me first :)

Notgoingouttoday · 05/08/2020 14:55

Probably never, haha - we are on interest only until age 70 so no idea what we will do then.

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2020 14:55

Just finished paying it off at 55. It's a very nice feeling Smile

Zenithbear · 05/08/2020 15:01

Paid first mortgage off in my early 30's
This house which I share with dp, our 2 rental houses and holiday cottage were all paid for in cash from the sale proceeds of my family house and dp's house.

woodlandwalker · 05/08/2020 15:03

I was 57 - life insurance paid it when my husband died.

lanadelgrey · 05/08/2020 15:15

Have hugely overpaid it, but not going to close it as I reckon borrowing back if and when needed is better than perhaps taking out a loan to pay for something massive

Coffeeandbeans · 05/08/2020 15:19

70 probably. Impact of a divorce but at least I have a house and am comfortable.

ChristmasinJune · 05/08/2020 15:21

As it stands 57, I've got the option to bring that down to 54 but am dithering between paying my mortgage off sooner or paying AVCs into my pension.

Alexandernevermind · 05/08/2020 15:23

We could clear it now but won't. Having a couple of 100 pounds still sitting on your mortgage we were told gives you access to cheap loans via a mortgage extension if you ever want home improvements, car loan! Probably complete bollocks!

cptartapp · 05/08/2020 15:34

44, sadly through inheritance though.
