Universal Credit Self Employed

I'm both self employed and employed part time, I earn more with my own business but not enough to cover all the rent and bills, although I hope to when I've built my business up enough, working part time means I can't put more hours in and would like to give up my employed position, has anyone done this and still kept their uc I don't want to risk leaving my job and end up not being able to pay the rent, I'm a single parent, any advice from anyone that has done this?

Things are slightly different at present due to Coronavirus but ordinarily, claiming UC if you’re self employed and have been running your business for at least a year requires you to be making a minimum income from your business - I believe it’s at the equivalent of at least NMW for your age group based on working 40 hours a week. If your business doesn’t provide you with at least that income then they’ll consider your business to be unviable and you’ll be required to look for employed work to remain eligible for UC. Though unless you’re very confident your business will continue to grow and wouldn’t be affected by the inevitable post-Corona economic fallout then I’m not sure right now is an advisable time to give up secure employment if you’re fortunate enough to have it.

Thank you for your reply, luckily I'm unaffected by the cornoviris, I will see if I can make an appointment and ask them if they think I'm gainfully self employed.
