Hi all,

My cat is 7 and I’ve not claimed for anything since he was two (just tests for a heart murmur, which the vet concluded wasn’t that bad and that he just didn’t like vets so got stressed). I just had my Tesco renewal and it’s gone up from £320/annum to £490/annum. I’m clearly going to swap but wondered if anyone had a recent excellent customer service experience?

I've been happy with Bought by Many and moved to them from Tesco after their renewal price was too high. Hadnt had any claims either

Thanks - will check them out.

wow, my 8 year old jack russell is only costing me £150 ish, with cashback via topcashback.co.uk

My Tesco cat insurance started at £8 a month or something when she was a kitten and went up to £85 a month when she was 12.

I’d claimed about £2k when she was about 10 years old and no claims in the previous 12 months when it rocketed at renewal.

They want your money...until they think the risk is too great that they may have to pay out so the price you out of the game and get rid of you.

Thanks Tesco from your loyal customer of over a decade.

My dog was insured with Insurance Emporium for 3 years and I had no issues whatsoever, and also made a claim in the 1st year. They were considerablely cheaper than other providers by a mile.
The mistake I made though was my dog had pre existing conditions from getting him. Due to price increases every year I changed providers without even thinking, which meant any new cover would have exclusions whereas his initial policy covered his conditions. In hindsight I should have just stayed with the first provider as his conditions were mainly all covered.
My experience of Insurance Emporium was a good one though and the only reasons why I had to cancel my policy with them and decide to not insure my dog anymore, was due to his age and breed making him either uninsurable or at a cost of 500% more than i was paying. I just couldn't afford it

Remember if you change insurance company as a pp has said any pre existing conditions wouldn’t be covered, so heart problems would be excluded for example.

This is pretty standard isn't it? The older an animal gets, the more likely they are to become unwell so the premium increases regardless of how many claims you have or haven't made in the past.

Wow that's expensive. My last cat was 15 with cancer when he died last year, his renewal came through shortly before he was put to sleep, so after he had received and they had paid for treatment and scans etc, it was £33 pm. That was with Aminal Friends.

I’m with PetPlan for my cat. I think I pay £15 or £18 a month, and he’s the same age as yours. He had an operation last month that cost about £450 including emergency vet fees, so luckily it’s not too painful in terms of money paid out vs gained back. The renewals don’t go up too much each year so we’re pretty happy so far.

Also they were lovely and helpful when my cat went missing and gave me some good advice about contacting the microchip company to put out an alert, which I’d never heard of before.

I’m getting absolutely cained by legal and general. But I’m a bit stuck because I claimed a few times(just for minor things - naive first time pet owner)

Will move to coop at the end of the year.
