Credit card refund but need the money??

Due to a cancelled holiday, I'm getting a nearly 3k refund onto my Amex card but I really need the money.

Is there a way to get the money out of my Amex card and into my bank account?

Is your account £3k in credit now? Or did you already have more outstanding? If you are in credit then if you call them they may refund you a credit balance.

If the card balance is now in credit of 3k then you can ask for refund.

If not some credit cards will transfer cash to bank account, not sure about AMEX specifically though.

Thanks. Yes, it will be in credit by 3k when it lands and no intention of using it via a card payment.

Just phone them they will take your bank details and transfer it back over. I've had to do similar with Amex recently and they were very good Smile

When I worked in a call centre for a credit card company (over 10 years ago) we would have sent you a cheque, suspect bank transfer preferred by now. I would phone them and see what the process is.

We dealt with this scenario yesterday. A refund on a holiday wiped out the balance on our credit card and gave us a positive balance of £3k.

A call to the credit card provider sorted it out, it will take a couple of days but they will transfer the balance into our account.

One thing the call handler said which I was not aware of - the guarantees about credit card companies covering the risk of fraudulent use ONLY covers when you owe them money. If you have a positive balance on your card, and you lose it or someone steals it, they will not reimburse what's been spent until you are back to zero and owing them money.

Thank you everyone, especially @hilbil21
