Hi, really hoping someone may have experience of something similar, before I decide to waste hours sitting in a phone queue!
I was claiming the child element for 2 children, but my son was lucky enough to find a last minute job for which he started 5 days ago. I informed UC, thinking that I would still get a mostly full payment for him to cover last month, minus 4 or 5 days from when he started work on Monday. I've logged into my statement this morning though and they've removed his share of the child element for the whole month!
He was still classed as a student up until 5 days ago, so is it right that they have taken the whole months worth, rather than just the couple of days??

The change will affect the whole Assessment Period. So if your AP is 1/7 - 31/7 and the change happens on the 20/7. It will take effect on your account from 1/7 and will change the amount you get on 7/8. There is no part month payments for different elements. This can benefit you if for example you move and start paying rent from 20/7. This would take effect from the 1/7 and you would see your full monthly housing element in your payment on 7/8.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately you are correct. I spoke to someone via the journal. It seems very unfair to lose the whole month when he was still being fully supported by me for all of it aside from the last 4 days! Can't do much about it though I guess.x
