Carer’s allowance and back pay help

Hi, I receive DLA and carer’s allowance for my child who has complex needs. I only finally gave up work one year ago so have only been claiming carer’s the past year. Today I found out I’ve received £900 back pay from my previous teaching job 2 years ago. (All teachers in N. Ireland have received this at minute). Obviously I’m totally delighted with this windfall but I’m now wondering will this mess up my carer’s allowance. Does that mean it will be counted as income for the next few weeks? Do I need to inform them? I’m scared of them stopping my claim. I really rely on this money now and have no other income. Would really appreciate any advice on this.

Definitely contact them, my experience is they are pretty vicious- they sent me for a fraud interview with caution for a similar situation ( though it was resolved quite quickly). Scary though.

If it came in one payment it should only mean you lost carers allowance for that one week.

I'd still call and notify them
Though.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn’t sure what to do but will definitely ring them tomorrow. I couldn’t deal with having to pay back etc. down the line. Wouldn’t mind at all if just means no carer’s allowance for the one week, just hoping they don’t take it off for several weeks.I’ll be ringing first thing. Thank you.
