Insurance "if you sign up AFTER x date you're not covered". Signed up ON x date, not covered.

I opted in to some insurance that included loss of revenue cover. On the website it said "if you sign up after 10th March (example date) you will not be covered for loss of revenue due to corona virus". I signed up ON said date and assumed from the wording I was covered. Apparently not.

Was I daft to think this?

I've tried to follow it up directly but can't get hold of anyone at the underwriters to double check. It would have been a very helpful amount and I'm gutted.

Have you got a copy of your policy documents? Somewhere in the small print will be a statement to say the precise time and date for the duration of the policy to be in force. You might possibly be able to raise a complaint about their advertising being misleading if you think it has been.

The magic word "complaint" should get some attention for a faster response time.

Thank you, I've read my policy and no mention of it. Did find an email address though so I've sent them an email. Hopefully I'll get an official response.

You can't normally make a claim for something that has happened before you took the policy out. So if you signed up for loss of revenue cover after you had already been affected it is likely your claim would be rejected in any case. This is because insurance is to cover unforeseen events, which the impact of the coronavirus would not have been from the beginning of March onwards.
