Money saving tips for house saving?

Me, my partner and our DS have moved back into my parents to help save for a house deposit. What are your best tips, advice etc for doing so?

DP works full time, I'm a full time student nurse, DS will be going to nursery in October.

Any advice welcome! Grin

The best thing that worked for us was moving the money into a savings account as soon as we got paid (instead of the "end" of the month). We actually came up with a whole plan which meant every pay day we:

  • Keep money in main account for rent, bills, groceries etc
  • Send some money to secondary account to spend however we like
  • Send some to savings account for house deposit
  • Send some to another savings account to cover nursery fees

Write down all existing direct debits and cull where you can!
