Electric help!!?

CartersMum88 · 24/05/2020 10:33

First post in new here but don't know where else to ask... Does anyone know why my electric would have been turned off on a Sunday? I was sure I'd read it wouldn't go off until Monday?

My child benefit was due to go in Monday so I would of been ok but with the bank holiday it's gone in early and back out for a bill..
totally screwed and really struggling with all of this.. I'm on hold to them now but I've been told I can't get any more help because I've already had a credit code off them a month ago?!
What can I do?? I have a 7 month old and no electric I feel so down with all of this going on feel like an awful mum :(

Ask family and friends to help? Pay it on a credit card and pay it off when you have the money?

CartersMum88 · 24/05/2020 10:36

I guess everyone is in the same boat at the moment, I don't have any credit cards etc and the only family I have is my mum who simply doesn't have anything. I'm Just wondering if anyone knows of any numbers I can ring to get help?

Start with the electric company.

When do you get money again

CartersMum88 · 24/05/2020 11:20

They've said I can't get any more help as I had £15 from them last month but I've lost my job at the moment haven't been furloughed and I'm waiting on a universal credit claim to go through. I'm just lost

Food bank? I know they can help with electric and gas

Lmm34 · 24/05/2020 12:01

You could try your local council. Some have helplines set up at the moment and can maybe organise some welfare assistance.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/05/2020 12:15

Surely, if this were genuine, your first thought would be to contact local support (such as the council, food bank etc), not post on mumsnet?

It’s not the bank of mumsnet, you know.

mencken · 24/05/2020 12:24

try your local volunteer support group - look on facebook, there's one in most places. Our has a budget from a couple of sources and this is exactly the kind of thing it is for.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 24/05/2020 12:29

Do you cook with gas? If so I'd be inclined to do without electric till tomorrow you'll be ok

OP doesn't get money tomorrow.

OP contact your local council, at the very least they will signpost you to the right people who can help you. Now more than ever there is a lot of help available

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 24/05/2020 12:57

What about your childs dad? Friends or neighbours - have you asked them?

BrieAndChilli · 24/05/2020 13:19

Surely you were expecting the bill to go out so how were you planning on paying that?
Have you asked you bank for a small overdraft?

CleverQuacks · 24/05/2020 13:22

If you are waiting on UC you can get an advance from them. It won’t go in today but mine went in within 3 days. You do it all online.
