Statutory Sick Pay help?

Hello :)

My husband works two days a week for a company but broke his wrist 5 weeks ago and so his gp gave him a sick note to give his employer. My husband works on Wednesday and Fridays every week and he gets paid every four weeks on the same date. I know there are qualifying days and waiting days which affect the amount you’re entitled to. We’ve looked at his pay slip and he has only been paid ssp for the second two weeks out of the last period and for the first two received nothing because of the 3/4 waiting days. Can anyone confirm if this is correct and all fine please? Worried sick about bills, thanks.

You need to check his company's policy. For example in my dads job you didnt get sick pay for the first 3 days so if you were going to be off sick you made it count and often people ended up being off for 3 weeks instead of just 1 day due to this policy.

They have no policies in place (I checked Grin ). The first three sick days are waiting days so I understand he can’t be paid for the first week but he’s not paid at all for the second week either, that’s four waiting days and not three :/

You are correct, he would not get SSP for the first 3 working days he was off sick, but he should get it for the others. He should write to his employer (by email or letter) to query it.

You can work out exactly how much he should have been paid using this calculator:
