Hi
Looking to earn extra cash and was thinking usborne but I've diverted from that I used to do avon many years ago but never got much from it.
I'm looking into either fm cosmetics or scentsy?
Anyone any experience in either and how good are they to earn extra cash from and keep going with the selling?

How much are you paying to join? To buy stock/starter kits?

These are all mlm schemes, the real income stream is in recruiting people under you. Are you comfortable with that?

Sexnotgender · 05/05/2020 19:08

God don’t do an MLM scheme.

PineappleDanish · 05/05/2020 19:09

Neither.

Both are MLM - network marketing, multi level marketing - and you WILL LOSE MONEY. And friends. And credibility.

Student58 · 06/05/2020 08:56

Its virtually impossible to make money out of any of those schemes. You would be better of spending time looking for things to sell after lockdown, cutting your bills, doing survey sites and cash back sites.

stiffchain · 06/05/2020 09:10

You'll not get any support on MN for these schemes OP. Bad idea to post on here. And bad idea to even think about getting involved. Unless you got in at the very beginning it's likely you'll end up shelling out more money on stock and other overheads rather than earn a penny.

CodenameVillanelle · 06/05/2020 11:14

None of them
MLM schemes do not work for 95%+ of people who join. You have to be at the top of the pyramid to make money and you only make money from recruiting others who will lose money. Don't be a mug.

acatcalledjohn · 06/05/2020 11:26

If you can afford to lose what cash you have then crack on.

You won't make money. Just look at the income disclosure and the average annual commissions in 2018: https://imagelive.scentsy.com/cmsimages/files/uk-en%20resource%20library/scentsy%20documents/r2-uken-2019-incomedisclosurestatement-final-update.pdf

Norma27 · 06/05/2020 11:30

Neither. Mlms are the scum of the earth. Only join if you want to lose money and lose your friends too.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 06/05/2020 11:37

Regardless of what they might tell you, there is no money to be made retailing MLM products, in fact you're likely to lose more than you every make. Those who do make money do so from intense recruitment and they are way further up the pyramid than you will ever be.

RogueApostrophe · 06/05/2020 11:51

The advice above from @Student58 is the best way to make some cash without investing any money into overpriced products to your friends.

Also don't forget you have to spend a minimum amount each month to stay active as a consultant so you'll just end up spending your own cash when you fail to convince your social circle to part with their cash.

And as also mentioned above you'll just end up alienating your social circle so that everyone will give you the swerve after lockdown is over!

SueEllenMishke · 06/05/2020 11:53

None - you won't make money. You'll lose money and friends.

YouokHun · 06/05/2020 11:55

Don’t touch MLM. Like everyone else has said, you WILL lose money. Only a tiny percentage do well. You might find the BBC documentary “Ellie Investigates the Multilevel Millionaires” (on iPlayer) well worth watching. It focusses on two MLMs, not the ones you mention but keep in mind that the outcomes for people signed up to any MLM are poor, it doesn’t matter which you sign up to.

BSintolerant · 06/05/2020 15:10

Have you seen this article? It might point you in the right direction:

www.talentedladiesclub.com/articles/why-pyramid-schemes-are-not-a-cure-for-coronavirus/?fbclid=IwAR2iQb8EbdbYUj3HiqlcBJkz5wlF5EJPQV4l5_08GDrjo4QLpJ5nfeCunNU

Please use your brain and don’t let brainwashed, gullible fools talk you into getting involved with MLM schemes. You’ll lose money and end up in debt. Here’s the excellent BBC documentary about MLMs which someone mentioned above:

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p076n2hg/secrets-of-the-multilevel-millionaires-ellie-undercover

YouokHun · 06/05/2020 16:19

Excellent links from BSintolerant OP; please look at them and also at botwatch.blog/ and www.mlmtruth.org

Keep in mind that the information in BS’s post and this one comes from people who have nothing to gain from you signing up or not; they’ve all observed MLM and haven’t liked what they’ve seen or they’ve had family damaged by MLM. You’ll now doubt be encouraged to ignore the arguments against MLM but keep in mind those encouraging you to join stand to gain if you join their MLM, so they are not going to tell you (they may not even have researched properly themselves) about the appalling losses in MLM.

Thanks guys for all the info really helpful
I did avon years and years ago and got nothing really from it due to not getting the customers etc so gave it up
Ok the now I'm technically not working due to start date being held back and partners been off work since jan so on UC the now so thought I'll do something like scentsy or usborne to name a few but now I've read up on it and all the mlm companies dont think I'll bother

Might seem like a good idea and have thoughts of ohh the money will come in handy but what if I get a few orders then it drys up like when I did avon

Thanks again very helpful

Very wise @Livelivelife, I think it will be just like your Avon experience!

BSintolerant · 06/05/2020 22:43

You’re very wise to steer clear of MLMs. The £10 a day thread is very good.

CodenameVillanelle · 07/05/2020 14:39

Avon is one MLM where people can make a tiny bit of money because their products are actually ok and not too expensive - they have a loyal client base still hanging on from the days where the catalogue lady would be the most convenient way of ordering things to your house. It is impossible for new Avon reps to build those old loyal client bases especially as younger women aren't buying Avon!!!
Anything else like scentsy or usbourne cannot work just as sales because the products are either crap, over priced or both. You might get a few pity purchases but beyond that - nothing

YouokHun · 07/05/2020 15:34

Agree about Avon benefitting from its old persona. The problem with Avon is saturation. Because It’s now MLM there are a lot of people trying to recruit teams of people; there are so many recruitment posts on FB selling sites and those recruiters don’t care about territory (no MLM does but it seems to be a real problem for Avon). Where I live in a road of about 20 houses there are three Avon sellers all recruited by different people, and no doubt three more sellers in the next road! The other thing about Avon is they are most definitely not cruelty free (or even close) though my Avon neighbour has been told they are (she’s definitely wrong).
