Self employed furlough

Hi, if I'm self employed and earned approx 5k and paid no tax or NICs (but did get child benefit) would I be eligible for the 80% Gov scheme? Thanks

Did you file your tax returns?

HollowTalk · 02/05/2020 09:15

If you did, go onto the tax return website and it gives you all the conditions that you need to fulfil in order to get money from them. I received an email on the day that the decision was made about self-employed payments. Did you get that? I do know people who didn't get it who are in the same position as me though.

Have you submitted your tax returns for the applicable years? If so, yes, I believe you should be. 2019/20 earnings are not included in the calculations though as most tax returns haven't been submitted yet.

DonLewis · 02/05/2020 09:16

What period were those earnings over?

Have you earned that every year?

If it was 5k p/a and you filed your return, I can't see why not. It'd be about £300 per month and the gvt said 3 months worth. So about £900/1000 ish?

Total amateur here, so perhaps we should wait for an expert to come along before trusting my maths!

2 years at about 5k 1 year at about 2.5/3k, I cant remember. I'm not bothered about how much it is as I would just be grateful to get any help. Just wondering if it only went on taxable earnings. Thank you.

Just read that link and it says the grant will be taken into account for UCs, but if people are getting a lump sum, it will probably reduce UCs for that month to almost zero. Not sure if it'll be worth claiming it now

Just keep an eye on it. They changed some of the detail of the rules on furlough often and even after they had opened the scheme, so this is likely to change too.
