Positive balance on credit card due to refund but now I owe that money to other people?

I've received a refund of £300+ for an event which has now been cancelled due to COVID, however I paid using my CC as I buying tickets for 5 other people.
So now I have a positive balance of £300 on my CC, but how do I pay my 5 friends their £50 each?
I was thinking if I withdraw it from an ATM will it charge me still? Although in the current situation still not sure how I would get the cash to them!
It's a Santander card if that makes any difference, thanks!

Can you not buy things on the credit card that you would normally pay from your bank account eg food/petrol etc and then use the cash that frees up to transfer to your friends?

Freeshavocado · 20/04/2020 15:31

That is what I would do normally but I'm not paying for much at the moment so it's going to take me a while to spend that much money, the annoying thing is I bought a new phone for £700 on Saturday and if I had thought about it earlier I could have used my CC to buy my new phone

Via PayPal? Top up your PayPal balance with c/c, then send them all their £50 hours electronically.

Of course, you’ll need PayPal accounts for that.

Call the CC company and ask them to transfer that money back to you. It's not a cash withdrawal, it's fine and won't incur fees - or it didn't when we did similar with barclaycard.

Or ask the credit card company to refund the positive balance to your current account. I think policies vary on that.

Call the company and they will refund to your account. I just did this with a holiday

Freeshavocado · 20/04/2020 15:37

Call the Credit Card company and they will refund it. There will be extra security questions, but it's really straight forward.

I had similar happen, within about 3 days the bank automatically transferred the positive balance to the account I normally pay the CC direct debit from. So if you cant get through to the bank leave it 5 or so days and it might be moved automatically.

withdraw the cash or add the card to a paypal account and paypal who you owe

livingthegoodlife · 20/04/2020 20:48

I had this exact problem last week. My credit card sent the money to my current account as cash. Which reminds me, I need to refund my friends!

Woofwoofwooof · 20/04/2020 20:49

I've just done this and called the bank who transferred the balance to my current account.

CathyorClaire · 20/04/2020 20:52

I did this for DM. The CC was a bank one and they refunded it to her current account straight away.

wildcherries · 22/04/2020 10:26

I had this yesterday. Customer service at my bank transferred to my current account with no problems. I didn't have to call the credit card company.
