Tell me about switching gas and electricity suppliers, did you do it, was it easy, is any supplier particularly crap? TIA

Thinking of switching, uswitch has just showed me Npower will be much cheaper than British Gas. But I seem to think I've read awful stuff about them. Any advice? Thanks

If you pay by direct debit monthly I'd advise you switch in the summer.. I didn't and got a whacking great (IIRC £600!!) final bill from British gas I had to pay (if you switch in the summer due to less usage the money will have caught up IYKWIM)

Use anyone apart from EDF Energy - they are absolutely rubbish! Switching is very easy though.

sockmonkey · 14/09/2007 14:54

I agree, avoid EDF like the plague.

WideWebWitch · 14/09/2007 15:14

Thanks, have switched both to npower and apparently it will save £30 a month

We switched from Powergen who were useless (kept sending stroppy letters asking us to pays bills we'd paid yonks before and on time) to npower. Very easy. No problems so far, and slightly cheaper for us.

bonkerz · 14/09/2007 22:15

strangely we have recently switched from npower to british gas!!! They are cheaper for us by a whacking £40 per mointh!

MaxandRuby · 14/09/2007 22:23

we are with powergen and would like to change - we can't yet though as, due to our direct debits being wrong, we now owe them 300 quid. We can't pay it in one go, so we have to wait.
my dad just signed up with Sainburys energy which turns out to be EDF - oops! are they reallly bad then?

Lucky78945 · 31/10/2018 17:11

I've recently switched to Octopus energy and would really recommend them - has been really smooth so far - they did handled the whole switch for me and they are very competitive in terms of price.

And I did a bit of searching and found a £50 off link which was a huge bonus so if you want to sign up then use the link below for a discount:
