Received money that isn't mine in my bank account

I've contacted my bank and they've said there's nothing they can do. But I feel bad that I've got someone's £100 that they might well need. Has anyone managed to return money that isn't theirs?

That's weird. Can't you see where its come from?

Justajot · 08/04/2020 20:46

No, it's got a name as a reference, but no account numbers. I did look up the name on FB, but there are quite a few people with the name, so I don't think I can trace them that way.

Happened to me a year ago I kept it

It's ridiculous that banks can't tell who money came from or return it to them. Or is it just not worth their while?

Justajot · 08/04/2020 20:56

They've said they can't. It's not like I actually need to know the bank details myself, I just need the bank to send it back on my behalf.

Just leave it. It's likely the people who sent it will ask for it it back but the bank needs your permission to take it. You could keep it if you wanted but I don't think I could.
