Question about UC

Hi
So we have had to apply for universal credits as both myself and my husband have been put on furlough for the foreseeable with the CV pandemic. We have had to take an advance as our rent etc are due before we would receive 1st payment (landlord not helpful in slightest) obviously they will take money each month from whatever we will be entitled to to repay it which is fine and we knew. Also received a letter today from DWP about an overpayment we had on tax credits years ago we have been paying back by standing order every month but got told during this pandemic they were putting a hold on repayments however the letter we received today said to cancel standing order but that we will have more money deducted from whatever UC we will be entitled to which I imagine will be more than the agreed monthly standing order we had in place. Will we be able to request a reduction in what they take off of us whilst we are in this furlough position as with the money from the advance we took as well as this overpayment they are now on about taking we wont have any entitlement left so wont be able to afford rent and essential food gas and electricity water....

Hi @mummy1214 I'm a UC Work Coach. DWP are automatically deferring debts previously owed from any overpayments you've received. Once you have paid back one installment of your advance, leave a message in your journal asking to defer your advance repayments.
