Tax Refund

Hello,

I spoke to someone at HMRC as I had been incorrectly taxed on a redundancy payment.
They said they could see that I was due a few thousand to be returned but they couldn't do it until the end of the tax year as I had claimed taxable benefits (JSA).
Do I have to claim the money or does it just get sent to me?
Sorry, if this is a dippy question but I've never had to deal with my own tax.
Thanks!

If you are now working again any refund usually come back to you through your company's payroll, not sure if you are not currently working, you may have to chase them for it.

I'm not working at the moment.
I have got a job but I can't start it at the moment so will continue to get a small amount of JSA until I have an official starting date.
I did see something on the HMRC site about filling in your details so I might just do it anyway.

They should do it automatically in theory, but quickest way to get it would be to log onto your personal tax account (or set one up) and request it.

Fill in a form R40 from HMRC website
